Doherty, Keena Lift Field Hockey over Falcons

ALLENTOWN, PA – Goals from Fiona Doherty (Clarkstown, N.Y./Clarkstown South) and Shannon Keena (Pearl River, N.Y./Pearl River) from Emelina Leccese (Rocky Point, N.Y./Rocky Point) lifted the field hockey Valiants over Cedar Crest 2-0 ON Tuesday night at The FalconPlex.

The Valiants (5-9, 0-2 AEC) have reached a new high in the win category under head coach Katie Nichol. The Falcons move to 2-12 on the year.

FIRST HALF – MANHATTANVILLE 0, CEDAR CREST 0

Both teams came out defensively, with Manhattanville halting the Falcons on seven corners in the first half. Hannah Doherty (Clarkstown, N.Y./Clarkstown South) held strong in the cage, recording four saves to begin play.

SECOND HALF

Q3 – MANHATTANVILLE 1, CEDAR CREST 0

The Valiants found its way to the scoreboard with a goal from Keena from Leccese for her fifth of the year. She now leads the team in goals, breaking the three-way tie.

Defense held firm, stopping the Falcons from finding a way to the board after six corners within ten minutes.

Q4 – MANHATTANVILLE 2, CEDAR CREST 0

The second goal of the night was scored by F.Doherty from Leccese, furthermore, clinching the non-conference road victory.

H.Doherty recorded an additional two saves in the second half of play while her defense blocked three shots.

Game Notes

  • Keena sits at three goals more than her previous season high record set in her sophomore season.
  • Leccese is now third on the team for assists with four, sitting behind F.Doherty (5) and Keira Guinan (Seaford, N.Y./Seaford) (6)
  • H.Doherty is now nine saves away from 150 in her career.
