NEWBURGH, N.Y. – Manhattanville women's volleyball earns its fifth straight in a 3-0 sweep against Mount Saint Mary on Wednesday afternoon.
The Valiants move to 12-7 (6-0 SKY) while the Knights drop to 8-13 (4-3 SKY) on the season.
SET ONE – MANHATTANVILLE
The opening two points were scored off of kills from Loren Hernandez (Toa Baja, Puerto Rico/American Military Academy), followed by two more service aces from Alana Rivera to put the away team up by four. A kill from Emily Brown (Kaneohe, Hawaii/Damien Memorial) and another ace from Hernandez put the Vals 6-2 to set the standard for the match.
The Knights pushed back and got the set within two points on multiple occasions, including a short rally at the end of the set before the away team secured set one 25-23.
SET TWO – MANHATTANVILLE
Hernandez began the second set with two aces, but the home team pushed to continue evening out the set (4-4, 5-5) before the Valiants went on a 9-1 run, making the score 17-8. The rally was answered with three consecutive points from Mount Saint Mary before Manhattanville pushed out their lead to 23-11 and ultimately secured the second set 25-14.
SET THREE – MANHATTANVILLE
Going into the final set, the Valiants began our in front once again with kills from Izzy Mojica (Tolland, Conn./The Woodstock Academy), Brown, and Samantha Andriola (Garden City South, N.Y./Sacred Heart Academy). The back-and-forth continued as Manhattanville held the lead to 14-12 before a six-point stretch put them out 20-12.
The victory was secured by a pair of service aces and kills from Lea McIntyre (Lansingburgh, N.Y./Lansingburgh) and Hernandez. The final point came from a service error for the 25-15 final.
Up next – Continuing on the road at Mount Saint Vincent, the Manhattanville women's volleyball team is set to play in Riverdale at noon on Oct 25.
