Gibson Grabs Lone Goal in Loss

FARMINGDALE, N.Y. – Sophomore Forward Johanna Gibson (Brooklyn, N.Y./Edward R Murrow) scored the only goal for women's soccer in loss to Farmingdale 3-1 on Saturday afternoon.

The Valiants move to 5-10 (4-5 SKY) while the Rams (7-9-3, 6-2-2 SKY) grab win six in the Skyline.

The lone goal scored was under a minute into gameplay in the second half after a defensive turnover allowed Gibson to be open for a pass from Ashley Irmscher (Saint James, N.Y./Smithtown East) to get the game within one and avoid the shutout. Sophomore goalkeeper Alexa Benett stepped out for her fourth start and complete game of the season, recording her second 10-save game with the first one falling against Merchant Marine on Sept 30.

Farmingdale grabbed its lead early; just under nine minutes into the game, the first score came from Alyse Rivera. The Rams pulled out a second goal 23 minutes into the first half with a goal from Paulina Fonfara.

The final goal of the day came from Rivera for her second of the day, securing the 3-1 victory for the Rams.

Up Next – The Valiants return home on Wednesday, Oct 29, for the final outing of the regular season against Old Westbury (7-7, 4-6 SKY) at 4 PM.
