Women's Volleyball Logs Sixth Sweep in Last Seven Against Yeshiva

PURCHASE, N.Y. – The Manhattanville University women's volleyball team logged its seventh-straight win on Tuesday night with a three-set sweep over Yeshiva University. The Valiants climb to 14-7 overall and remain perfect in the Skyline Conference with an 8-0 mark, circling in on the No. 1 seed for the Conference Championship Tournament.

Lea McIntyre (Lansingburgh, N.Y./Lansingburgh) led the Valiants' attack effort with a career-high ten kills. She was complimented by a trio of five-kill efforts from Emily Brown (Kaneohe, Hawaii/Damien Memorial), Cassidy Fallon (Brewster, N.Y./Brewster) and Caylin Caballero (Eastvale, Calif./Walnut).

Kayla Jennings (Yorktown Heights, N.Y./Lakeland) and Dominique Sanchez (Colchester, Conn./Bacon Academy) split libero duties, with Jennings collecting two digs in the opening set before Sanchez took over for sets two and three. The defensive side was led by Izzy Mojica's (Tolland, Conn./The Woodstock Academy) season-high 10 digs, while also setting a new personal benchmark with seven aces. Samantha Andriola (Garden City South, N.Y./Sacred Heart Academy) dug out six balls, while Brown and Aurea Obradors (Barcelona, Spain/Benjamin Franklin International School) finished with four each.

Andriola and Alana Rivera Torres (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico/Colegio Marista de Guaynabo) combined for 25 of Manhattanville's 30 assists, finishing with 14 and 11, respectively. Five other Valiants each recorded a helper apiece.

Manhattanville made quick work in the first two frames, holding Yeshiva to nine points in both sets as the Maccabees swung negative. The Valiants opened up the night on an 8-1 run and never looked back. Caballero had a pair of kills and an ace in the run, while Andriola served a pair of aces. The Maccabees only mustered one run, a three-point spurt to narrow the gap to 15-6, but were limited to one lone kill over the remainder of the set as the Valiant cruised to a 25-9 win.

It was more of the same in set two with the Valiants breaking a 2-2 opening tie with four answered points. The big blow came with Manhattanville up 8-4 as the Valiants scored 12 consecutive points as Mojica logged four of her aces in the run. Yeshiva responded to the run with five straight points of their own, but it did little to stop Manhattanville as the Valiants ended the frame with the next five points for another 25-9 win.

The Maccabees battled through set three as Manhattanville could not find the putaway run that benefited the team in the two frames prior. After three early ties, the Vals gained some breathing room with a 12-7 lead. Yeshiva pulled back to a two-point deficit on three separate occasions before Manhattanville broke things open with a four-point run, fueled by two more Mojica aces, to go up 22-16. The Valiants went on to score three of the next five to close out the win, 25-18.
