ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. — The Manhattanville University women's tennis team battled through a tightly contested match on Wednesday afternoon, defeating Bard College 4–3 to earn their fifth win of the season. 

The Valiants set the tone early in doubles play, capturing two of the three match ups. The duo of Amaya Ortiz (Bronx, N.Y./High School for Health Professions and Human Services) and Jenifer Lalman (Schenectady, N.Y./Schenectady) came up big at seed one doubles, earning a hard-fought 6–4 victory over Bard's Maria Castro and Paige Houghton. Meanwhile, the pairing of Adrianna Filippelli (Mastic, N.Y./William Floyd) and Addison Ortiz (Bronx, N.Y./High School for Health Professions and Human Services) continued their strong season at seed two doubles, cruising to a 6–2 win.

In singles competition, Amaya Ortiz (Bronx, N.Y./High School for Health Professions and Human Services) carried her momentum into the top of the lineup, rallying for a 7–6 (7–5), 6–0 victory at seed two singles. Her sister, Addison Ortiz (Bronx, N.Y./High School for Health Professions and Human Services), followed suit in seed three with a commanding 6–2, 6–1 win. At seed four Lalman stayed sharp in her straight-set triumph, defeating Patricia Santos 6–2, 6–0. 

While Filippelli, Maria Gutierrez (Norwalk, Conn./Brien McMahon), and Bianca Reyna (Yonkers, N.Y./Roosevelt) fought hard in their respective matches, Bard claimed wins at positions one, five, and six. Manhattanville's early doubles point and strong middle-lineup performances proved to be the difference.

The Valiants will look to keep their winning momentum rolling as they continue conference play this weekend at home facing Mount Saint Mary College at 12 PM.
