CANTON, MASS. – Olivia Cimorelli (West Deptford, N.J./The Hill School / Ironbound Elite) made 40 saves but the Valiant offense was held off the board as the Manhattanville University women's hockey team dropped its 2025-26 opener at Curry College by a final of 3-0 on Friday night.
Sophomore netminder Cimorelli picked up right where she left off after her stellar rookie campaign a season ago as she did everything in her power to withstand a relentless Colonel attack that fired 43 pucks on net in the season opener for both teams. It was the seventh game of Cimorelli's young career that she recorded 40 or more saves.
Cimorelli was immediately tested, facing and turning away all 16 shots she faced in the opening 20 minutes. Coriann Hoag was also perfect in the opening period on the other end of the ice, swallowing up all five pucks the Valiants put on target. Manhattanville was unable to convert on the first power play of the night after Curry's Alaina Holmes was sent off for tripping, as the Valiants were only able to get one shot off with the woman advantage courtesy of
Colby Cantor (Norwell, Mass./North American Hockey Academy).
Curry broke the scoreless affair 30 minutes into the contest as Morgan Slough finally found an opening on Cimorelli on the Colonels' second power play of the night. The Valiants were outshot 14-8 in the period, although Cimorelli did deny all other shots she faced outside of the power play goal.
Curry continued to maintain puck possession with another wide shot discrepancy in the third, adding an insurance tally from Bella Mardesich 7:52 into the period before Grace Inoue put the game on ice with an empty netter in the closing minute.
Manhattanville finished with 20 total shots on the night with Cantor and
Danika Aubin (Guy, Alberta, Canada/Northern Alberta Xtreme (CSSHL)) leading the effort with three apiece. Freshman
Kayla Leonard (Marshfield, Mass./Marshfield High School) recorded a pair of shots on goal in her collegiate debut, a total matched also by
Harper Weisbeck (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford Sutherland),
Catrina Chinetti (Hyde Park, Mass./Boston Latin Academy / East Coast Wizards) and
Jada Mackinnon (Barrington, Nova Scotia, Canada/King's Edgehill School).
Curry held a 37-27 advantage on faceoffs, with
Ali Joly (Pickering, Ontario, Canada/Dunbarton / Caledon Coyotes) winning a team-high nine for the Valiants.
