SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – The Manhattanville University men's basketball team was defeated by Sage in Sunday's consolation game of the 2025 Sig Makofski Invitational, falling to the Gators by a final of 89-68. The Valiants end the Thanksgiving weekend with a record of 2-4 overall following the two-day tournament.
The 89 points scored by Sage was the most allowed by the Valiants since Purchase scored 92 against Manhattanville in February 2024.
For a second-straight day,
Isiah Middleton (Miami, Fla./Westminster Christian) led the Valiant offense, scoring 17 against the Gators. The junior flirted with a double-double as he also led the team with nine rebounds, five of which came off the offensive glass. After a 37-point weekend in the two contests, Middleton was named to the Sig Makofski All-Tournament Team.
Andrew Saint-Louis (Norwalk, Conn./Notre Dame Fairfield) continued his offensive heater with 15 points, reaching double digits in all six games to open the season. His streak of games in double-figures stretching back to last season is up to 21-straight, last being held under 10 points in a game back in December 2024.
Andrew Melillo (Staten Island, N.Y./Monsignor Farrell) had his best performance of the season, scoring 12 and pulling down six rebounds, both season-highs. Melillo added a pair of steals and two assists to his solid outing.
Carlos Urena (Corona, N.Y./Monsignor McClancy) also featured heavily off the glass, coming down with a career-high seven rebounds in the loss.
Sage opened on a 7-0 run before
John Ranaghan (Pearl River, N.Y./Pearl River) got the Valiants on the board 2:27 into the action with a layup out of Manhattanville's first timeout. Manhattanville made it a one-score game off another Ranaghan layup before the Gators scored 10 unanswered bookended by threes from Brandon Harris and Deavion Springsteen to take an 18-6 lead with 14:03 left in the half.
The Gator lead remained in double digits for most of the first half, leading by 12 of a Springsteen bucket with 5:20 left to go. Manhattanville used a late 12-5 run capped by a Saint-Louis three to make it a 39-34 game with 1:31 remaining in the half, but the Gators scored seven of the final 10 to take a 46-37 advantage into the break.
Pape Tunkara pushed Sages' lead back into double-figures with a layup to open the half, the start of a 13-2 run that the Gators never looked back from. After trailing 59-39 with 16:35 left in regulation, Manhattanville never got back within 18 as the Gators shot .516 over the second half to firmly pull away.
