Women's Hockey Blanked in First Half Finale at RV/NR William Smith

GENEVA, N.Y. – The Manhattanville University women's hockey team was shutout on Saturday evening, falling 3-0 to RV/NR William Smith College. The Valiants head into the holiday break following the first half finale, carrying a 2-7-1 record.

The Valiants had no answer for Mia Iwicki on the day, with the Heron netminder stopping all 27 shots she faced. Manhattanville outshot William Smith 16-11 in the opening period but the junior Iwicki stood tall in her busiest 20 minute stretch. On the other end of the ice, Senea Urban scored the opening tally of the game 9:01 into the contest off assists from Laine Heiser and Bella Hacker.

The ice tilted in the second as the Herons outshot Manhattanville 13-5. Despite the sustained offensive pressure, the contest remained a one-goal game after a scoreless frame. The Herons added onto the lead in the opening minutes of the third on a Hacker goal before Heiser put the game to bed with an empty netter in with 22 seconds to play.

Olivia Cimorelli (West Deptford, N.J./The Hill School / Ironbound Elite) made 31 saves in the loss, led by 13 in the scoreless second period. Through the first half of the season, the sophomore goaltender currently holds a 2.80 goals-against average on the season with 306 saves and a .916 save percentage.

Four skaters—Molly Sances (Billerica, Mass./Billerica Memorial), Sasha Jacobson (Hanover, Mass./Brewster Academy), Claire Hazard (Barnstable, Mass./Worcester Academy) and Emilja Tučiūtė--led Manhattanville with three shots on net. Erin Flaherty (Rockland, Mass./Canterbury School) disrupted Heron shot attempts all game with a team-leading six blocks, her most since logging six against Chatham on Nov. 21.

Jada Mackinnon (Barrington, Nova Scotia, Canada/King's Edgehill School) accounted for ten of Manhattanville's 31 faceoff victories as the Valiants dominated on the dot. Kayla Leonard (Marshfield, Mass./Marshfield High School) went an impressive 7-0 on her draw attempts.

Manhattanville finished 0-for-1 on power play attempts, logging two shots with the extra skater. William Smith also went scoreless with the woman advantage, finishing 0-for-4 with eight shots. The Valiants have allowed just five power play goals through the first half of the season, sporting an .857 kill percentage through the opening 10 games.
