Women's Hockey Falls Short to Red Dragons' Late Rally

CORTLAND, N.Y. – Jada Mackinnon (Barrington, Nova Scotia, Canada/King's Edgehill School) netted the lone goal of the game as Manhattanville University women's ice hockey fell short against RV / RV Cortland's third-period rally on the road to open the second half of the season on Friday afternoon. The Valiants move to 2-8-1 (2-2 UCHC) while the Red Dragons improve to 6-5-2 (1-2-1 SUNYAC).

Both teams engaged in a defensive battle, remaining scoreless in the first period. Manhattanville earned its first power play of the night, only sending out one shot while not allowing any. Olivia Cimorelli (West Deptford, N.J./The Hill School / Ironbound Elite) kept the home team off the board with eleven saves in the first 20 minutes.

The Red Dragons struck first in the second half with a goal from Katie Diem assisted by Ainsley Delacourt and Katie Mahoney. The Valiants held Cortland to two shots during its second power play of the night before evening out on the ice. Machinnon took advantage of equal numbers to put the away team on the board, assisted by Molly Sances (Billerica, Mass./Billerica Memorial) and Emilija Tučiūtė.

After seven saves from Cimorelli, Genevieve Sbrocca found the back of the net for Cortland, putting the home team back up by one. Cortland secured game one of the series with a goal from Fanny Aneborn.

Cimorelli totaled 44 saves on the day, her fourth time surpassing 40 saves this season.
