STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – Wrapping up the indoor season, the Manhattanville University track and field teams were in action on Friday at the Fasttrack Last Chance Invitational at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex. While only four athletes were in action in the team's final competition for the next three weeks, the Valiants once again put up strong performances to continuing building momentum as the seasons change.
A pair of throwers—
Florence Harrison (Melbourne, Australia/Balwyn High School) on the women's side and
Matt Boggi (New Rochelle, N.Y./New Rochelle) on the men's—put forth memorable performances to head into the outdoor season. The lone women's competitor representing Manhattanville on the day, Harrison recorded a distance of 8.96 meters in the weight throw. The outing marked a 1.60 meter improved over the senior's previous best throw and launched herself all the way into second place all-time in the event in Manhattanville history.
Boggi, meanwhile, put up another great showing in the shot put. While the sophomore was unable to break the program's shot put record for a third consecutive meet, Boggi took 13
th overall and placed third in his flight with a distance of 11.76 meters.
Boggi was joined by his teammates
Joey DeMilio (White Plains, N.Y./White Plains) and
Luca Perez (Somers, N.Y./Somers) to round out the Valiant performances. The sophomore DeMilio came within two-hundredths of a second of his personal best in the 800-meter, clocking in at 2:00.54. Perez then competed in the long jump for the first time in a month and also flirted with his PB, as his jump of 5.12 meters was 0.07 meters off his best performance from the West Point Open back on Jan. 11.
