Women’s Hockey Overpowers Chatham, 8-1

RYE, N.Y. - Eight goals for eight different Valiants. The Manhattanville women's hockey team commanded the ice at Playland this evening against Chatham University. In the Valiants dominating performance, senior Ciara Dauer (Winchester, Mass./Worcester Academy) played in her 100th career game ahead of her and her classmate's senior day celebration tomorrow.

Five of the eight goals came in the first period alone. Just under a minute into the game, Danika Aubin (Guy, Alberta, Canada/Northern Alberta Xtreme (CSSHL)) scored her first collegiate goal with an assist from Annie Niedermier (Calgary, Alberta, Canada/Athol Murray College of Notre Dame) to start the goal frenzy 55 seconds in. A little over a minute later, Katherine Stahl (Middletown, R.I./Middletown) netted the second goal with an assist from Dauer. After eight minutes of playing tag with the puck, Taylor Willoughby (Camrose, Alberta, Canada/John Maland) scored the third goal on a power play. The final two goals of the first stanza came within eighteen seconds of each other. Ali Joly (Pickering, Ontario, Canada/Dunbarton / Caledon Coyotes) scored at the 18:03 mark right before Harper Weisbeck (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford Sutherland) netted the fifth and final goal of the period at the 18:21 mark.

After a commanding first twenty minutes, the second stanza went on to be scoreless from either end of the ice. The Valiants and Cougars remained level at five shots a piece on goal. Chatham showed their hand more strongly from an offensive standpoint, outshooting Manhattanville 15-13 in the second period.

Niedermier put the puck in the back of the next herself in the third stanza after earning an assist to her name earlier in the first period. Joly took the assist on this goal, making the score 6-0. Twenty-seven seconds later, Lillee Dougherty (Wakefield, R.I./Portsmouth Abbey School) scored with an assist from Abby Mellen (Rockport, Mass./Northfield Mount Hermon / Vermont Academy / East Coast Wizards). Nearing the end of the period with minutes to spare, the Cougars went on the extra woman advantage following a tripping penalty. Sophia Taylor scored the one and only goal for Chatham with less than a minute to go in the penalty time remaining. In hopes of narrowing the score differential, the Cougars pulled their goalie putting an extra skater on the ice. Catrina Chinetti (Hyde Park, Mass./Boston Latin Academy / East Coast Wizards) spotted the open net and shot from the Valiants defensive zone, taking the eighth and final goal of the contest.

Chinetti led the squad in shots with eleven total. Grace Genest (Wake Forest, N.C./The Gunnery (Conn.)) had seven shots on the night and Aubin had six to notch the top spots in shots for Manhattanville.

Joly had two assists for the night and five other Valiants each had one.

Dauer put everything on the line including herself tonight for her 100th career game with four blocked shots. Aubin and Genest each had three blocks for the contest as well.

Getting her second start of the season, Elsa Haakonsen (Trumbull, Conn./Choate Rosemary Hall) earned her first college win with 17 saves on the night.
