FRANKLIN, MA – The Manhattanville University Men's Lacrosse team took their first hit of the season with a loss against Dean College this afternoon. In only their second meeting ever with the Bulldogs, the Valiants took the loss this time around. With the season barley touching the ground, Manhattanville now stands at 1-1.
The Bulldogs opened the contest with five straight goals in the first quarter holding the Valiants to none. Manhattanville turned over the ball six times to give Dean the offensive upper hand to lead to the 5-0 lead to start the game.
The Valiants found the back of the net scoring twice to put numbers on the board in the second quarter. Michael Swift (New Rochelle, N.Y./New Rochelle) netted the first goal at the 8:55 mark unassisted to put Manhattanville on the board. Drew Palladino (Wantagh, N.Y./Wantagh) netted the next goal for the Valiants with a feed from Swift to push the score to 6-2. The Bulldogs netted the final two goals of the half stretching the score differential to 8-2.
Opening the second half, Dean and Manhattanville traded off goals for the duration of the third quarter. The Bulldogs struck first less than two minutes into the quarter. The Valiants came back with another tally from Tyler Burch unassisted minutes later to bring the score to 9-3. Swift delivered another blow at the 1:40 mark to close out the third stanza for Manhattanville.
The Valiants drew first blood opening the fourth and final quarter with a goal from Matt Bundy (Cinnaminson, N.J./Cinnaminson) unassisted just forty seconds into the final minutes of regulation. Swift delivered another unassisted blow to make the score 12-6. Burch added to the score with the final tally of the contest for the Valiants with an assist from Sean Larkin (White Plains, N.Y./White Plains). While Manhattanville opened their offense up more to put themselves on the board, Dean was able to maintain the lead the entire contest with four goals in the final stanza to close out the game, 15-7.
Swift led the squad with three goals and one assist for the afternoon. Burch netted two while Palladino and Bundy each tallied one.
Dean led the game in penalties with five compared to the Valiants three.
Manhattanville was one ground ball shy of tying with Dean for the contest with 18 compared to the bulldogs 19.
