Men’s Lacrosse Shutdown by Kean

PURCHASE, N.Y - The Manhattanville University men's lacrosse team dropped another non-conference matchup on Thursday night against Kean University, falling to the Cougars 19-5. The hit sets the Valiantsm back to a 1-2 overall record. 

A pair of rapid goals opened the contest. Sean Larkin (White Plains, N.Y./White Plains) struck first in the opening minute just before Dylan Johnson of Kean fired back evening the score at 1-1. The Cougars had an impressive offensive push, stealing the next six goals to close out the first quarter. Kean outshot Manhattanville 21-8 in the opening quarter. The contenders remained even with three ground balls each on their respective defensive ends. 

The Cougars kept the momentum going, opening the second quarter with a goal from Aarin Arbore to make the score 8-1. The Cougars went on to score the next four consecutive goals before the Valiants found the back of the net again. Nick Corace (Sayville, N.Y./Sayville) tallied the second goal of the game for Manhattanville, 12-2. Kean converted another two goals to close out the second stanza, 14-2.  

The attack continued to press with Kean netting the first goal to open the second half, 15-2. The Cougars scored the following three goals before Larkin registered the third goal of the contest for the Valiants and the second of the night for himself, 18-3. The final minutes of the third quarter remained scoreless with thirteen overall shots stemming from Kean and six from Manhattanville. 

The fourth quarter would only see three total goals with Drew Palladino (Wantagh, N.Y./Wantagh) netting the opening goal, making the score 18-4 with 13:11 remaining in the contest. Kean scored one goal in the fifteen-minute period before Dom Janavey (Shrub Oak, N.Y./Lakeland) tallied the final goal of the contest with 0:36 remaining.  

The Cougars outshot Manhattanville 54-35 for the duration of the event. Kean would also retrieve 48 ground balls compared to the Valiants' 42 and see 18 turnovers in contrast to Manhattanville's 25. The Valiants' ground ball effort was led by five from Aaron Goldstein (Walden, N.Y./Valley Central), while Matt Bundy (Cinnaminson, N.J./Cinnaminson) and Mike Mooney (Tappan, N.Y./Tappan Zee) chipped in four each. Mooney would also finih with a team-high two caused turnovers.

Joe Ulzheimer (Seaford, N.Y./Seaford) started in goal for the Valiants collecting fifteen saves for the night. Mike Hopkins (Bedford, N.Y./Fox Lane) protected the net for Manhattanville in the fourth quarter, accumulating one save.
