MADISON, N.J. – The Manhattanville University men's lacrosse team returned to action on Sunday for the finale of the 2025 Leanos Cup. The Valiants were felled by Immaculata in the tournament's consolation game 12-8, dropping to 1-5 on the season with the loss.
The Mighty Macs opened on a 3-0 run as Connor Teears earned a hat trick in the opening 10:08. Seth Panowitz, Bailey Manion and David Azzarano tallied assists on the opening goals that put Manhattanville in an early hole. Just 33 seconds after Teears' third, the Valiants broke through as
Sean Larkin (White Plains, N.Y./White Plains) scored from
Tyler Berch (Syosset, N.Y./Syosset) for the final tally of the opening frame.
Manhattanville came back with the first two goals of the second, as the Larkin-Berch connection struck again 1:03 into the quarter.
Jarod Wilmoth (Harlem, N.Y./Cardinal Hayes) then provided the equalizer with 12:48 left in the half off a helper from
Tim Beahm (Toms River, N.J./Toms River North). Teears continued his tear with his fourth strike of the half to put the Macs back in front a minute after Wilmoth scored before the Valiants put the next two goals on the board with
Drew Palladino (Wantagh, N.Y./Wantagh) and
Nick Corace (Sayville, N.Y./Sayville) each scoring from
Michael Swift (New Rochelle, N.Y./New Rochelle) assists to give Manhattanville its first lead at 5-4.
Immaculate went back in front before halftime as Joseph Biuso and Manion both got into the goal column to give the Mighty Macs a 6-5 advantage through 30 minutes of play.
Biuso delivered the opening blow of the second half before Valiant tallies from Swift and Corace evened things up at 7-7 with 9:28 left in the quarter. Swift would also pick up the assist on Corace's second of the game. David Azzarano broke the tie late in the third, scoring from Ryan Gorman to put Immaculata in front 8-7 to enter the final quarter.
The Mighty Macs put the game out of reach with a string of four-straight goals to open the fourth. Swift got the Valiants a goal closer with the final strike of the affair, but Manhattanville ultimately fell by a final of 12-8.
Joe Ulzheimer (Seaford, N.Y./Seaford) put up another solid performance in the cage, making a season-high 19 saves in his effort. Through six games, the junior goalie is already approaching the century mark in stops on the year, ending the week with 96 saves on the season.
Nick Padovani (Mahopac, N.Y./Mahopac) was nearly perfect on the X, winning nine of his ten faceoffs. The graduate student added a team-high six groundballs, while his FOGO partner
Aaron Goldstein (Walden, N.Y./Valley Central) won seven faceoffs and earned five grounders.
In addition to his assist, Beahm led Manhattanville's defensive effort with three caused turnovers.
Matthew Newman (Yonkers, N.Y./Archbishop Stepinac) also forced a pair of Mighty Mac giveaways.
