PURCHASE, N.Y. - In their conference play opener, the Manhattanville University women's lacrosse team was overwhelmed by the visiting Rams, 18-2, on Wednesday night. With the result, the Valiants now reside at a mark of 2-4.
Farmingdale was first to score in the contest, finding the back of the net just under one minute into the opening quarter. Manhattanville was able to answer back from the stick of
Kaci Pierce (Niantic, Conn./East Lyme), evening things up at one-all with 12:35 left in the first quarter.
The Rams were able to reclaim the lead a couple ticks later and embark on a 13-0 scoring run that lasted three quarters of play.
Farmingdale would lead the contest 11-1 as the game headed into halftime.
Rams were able to cushion their lead as the second half was under way, tacking on three more goals before Pierce was able to strike again, with help from
Ashley Glass (Mahopac, N.Y./Lakeland), for the Valiants final goal of the contest.
Farmingdale added four more goals in the final minutes of play, to see the final score of the tilt read 18-2.
Pierce led the offensive output for the Valiants, registering seven shots, five of them being on the frame of the goal.
Katherine Stahl (Middletown, R.I./Middletown) followed with three shots, as Glass and
Pietra Cabral (Mineola, N.Y./Mineola) rounded out the shot category with two apiece.
Erin Flaherty (Rockland, Mass./Canterbury School) paced the team with three ground balls and two caused turnovers.
Megan McDonald (Pearl River, N.Y./Pearl River) spent all sixty minutes between the pipes for Manhattanville, collecting twelve saves on the day.
