PURCHASE, N.Y. – The Manhattanville University women's lacrosse team celebrated Senior Night on a rain-soaked Friday under the lights of GoValiants.com Field, celebrating senior captain
Roshni Pawar (Beltsville, Md./CMIT Academy H.S. North) ahead of a 21-3 victory over Purchase College. The Valiants improve to .500 in the Skyline Conference with the win at 2-2 and now stand at 4-6 overall on the year.
The team honored Pawar pregame with a ceremony where she was joined by her parents and brother who had made the trip up to Purchase from Maryland. Pawar would treat her family to a show, scoring the first two goals of her collegiate career along with three ground balls and a caused turnover.
With a season-high 21 goals on the board, nine different Valiants earned a point as part of the festivities.
Ashley Glass (Mahopac, N.Y./Lakeland) led all scorers with a season-high seven-point outing, scoring three goals and handing out four assists.
Katherine Stahl (Middletown, R.I./Middletown) also had a career-best outing with six points on three goals and three assists. The junior has found the back of the net eight times over the Valiants' last three games.
Pietra Cabral (Mineola, N.Y./Mineola) and
Kaci Pierce (Niantic, Conn./East Lyme) each finished with five points on matching four goal, one assist lines.
Elsa Haakonsen (Trumbull, Conn./Choate Rosemary Hall) joined Pawar in earning her first collegiate goal as pair of a two goal, two assist night, totals also sported by
Jocelyn Mazo (Mamaroneck, N.Y./Mamaroneck) in the win.
Erin Flaherty (Rockland, Mass./Canterbury School) accounted for the Valiants' other goal, her first of the season, while
Sydney Natale (Greenwich, Conn./Greenwich) picked up an assist.
Manhattanville took control with a 6-0 scoring margin in the first quarter. Pierce netted a first period hat trick, while Cabral scored her 17
th of the year and Pawar and Haakonsen both collected their first collegiate tallies as part of the dominant opening period.
Glass continued the run with Manhattanville's seventh goal of the night to begin the second. Purchase got on the board with Julieth Velasquez scoring a woman-up tally. Manhattanville's lead extended with goals by Glass, Pierce, Cabral and Stahl. Velasquez struck again after another Manhattanville penalty, but Mazo ended the half with the Valiants' second-straight six-goal quarter, going ahead 12-2 into the break.
The Valiants scored all four goals in the third, with Stahl, Cabral, Glass and Mazo each finding the net. Manhattanville continued to strike with the first five goals of the fourth. Stahl, Cabaral, Pawar, Flaherty and Hakkonsen each added tallies across the final 15 minutes, while Maggie Osman accounted for Purchase's lone goal of the half.
Mariah Stephens (Mission Viejo, Calif./Mission Viejo) and
Alexa Bennett (Sparrowbush, N.Y./Port Jervis Senior) each earned six draw controls. Stephens added four ground balls, a total matched by Mazo and only surpassed by Stahl's six. Stahl, Mazo and
Ava Wade (Eastchester, N.Y./Eastchester) each forced three Panther turnovers as the leading defenders.
