Women’s Lacrosse Rolls Past Old Westbury, 17-1

PURCHASE, N.Y. - The Manhattanville University women's lacrosse team delivered a commanding performance against the College at Old Westbury this evening. The Valiants earned another conference win under their record standing at 3-2. Manhattanville has three more conference games remaining with their sights set on a postseason push.  

The Valiants scored an impressive seven goals in the first quarter. Three of the seven were delivered by Pietra Cabral (Mineola, N.Y./Mineola). Cabral netted the first goal of the contest just under two minutes into the game. She was assisted by Roshni Pawar (Beltsville, Md./CMIT Academy H.S. North) to get the scoring frenzy going. She nabbed the fourth and sixth goals of the first stanza as well unassisted as the third was a free position opportunity for the Valiants. Sophomore defender Erin Flaherty (Rockland, Mass./Canterbury School) buried her second goal of the season and of the contest with an assist from Kaci Pierce (Niantic, Conn./East Lyme). Ashley Glass (Mahopac, N.Y./Lakeland) struck again for Manhattanville thirteen seconds later after taking the draw control after the second goal. Up 3-0, the Valiants were finding a comfortable rhythm as Kaci Pierce (Niantic, Conn./East Lyme) netted the final two goals of the opening quarter at the 7:28 mark and the 3:27 mark.  

Glass netted another goal for Manhattanville in the opening minutes of the second quarter just before the Panthers could log their first goal of the contest. Up 8-1 at the at the 6:25 mark, the Valiants were able to deliver two more goals before the second half surge began. Cabral and Pierce notched the final two goals of the opening half unassisted.  

Five goals came in the third stanza as Cabral buried the opening three goals. All three goals were unassisted with one being a free position opportunity. Katherine Stahl (Middletown, R.I./Middletown) established her presence in the contest notching her first goal of the game at the 6:41 mark, bringing the score to 14-1. Cabral was not going anywhere as she found the back of the net late in the third quarter adding another tally for the Valiants.  

The momentum started to wane as two final goals were scored in the last stanza. Jocelyn Mazo (Mamaroneck, N.Y./Mamaroneck) netted her first goal of the contest at the 11:37 mark bringing the tally to 16-1 in the final minutes. Cabral took her final opportunity to score with just under three minutes left closing out the contest, 17-1. 

Cabral was a powerhouse on the field this evening scoring a career high of nine goals. The Junior attacker notched nine points in the process with a career high of shots on goal with eleven. 

Pierce tallied three goals in the game for herself, and Glass earned two. Stahl, Mazo and Flaherty each added one to the mix.  

Manhattanville secured 36 ground balls compared to the Panthers 14 throughout the duration of the contest. The Valiants also led the way in draw controls, winning 17 compared to Old Westbury's nine.
