Game One Recap: Manhattanville 10, Purchase 2 (Six Innings)
The Valiants scored in five of the six innings of Tuesday's opener, scoring four in the bottom of the sixth for an unorthodox walk-off with a run-rule win.
Leading 6-2 entering the sixth, Manhattanville scored four runs to enact the run-rule, warning the runs in a non-traditional fashion. The Valiants logged only one hit in the frame, doing the damage via the walk and wild pitch. Walks by
Isabella Tansey (San Diego, Calif./University City) and
Samantha Walsh (Spring City, Pa./Owen J Roberts) sandwiching an
Olivia Fasce (Yorktown Heights, N.Y./Yorktown) single loaded the bases with no outs. Liana Lara came off the bench and drew a walk as a pinch hitter to bring home Tansey, but Fasce was not content to just move up to third, stealing home for the second run of the play. A wild pitch allowed Walsh to score before another pitch made its way to the backstop on ball four to
Emily Mottoshiski (Craryville, N.Y./Taconic Hills), allowing Lara come home to make the score 10-2 to bring an end to the contest.
Mottoshiski benefited from the chaos, improving to 10-3 with another strong outing. The senior struck out six across six innings, allowing two runs on five hits while walking three.
The Valiants opened the scoring in the first off a
Rachel Coleman (Lake Forest, Calif./Mission Viejo) single to score Walsh. The Panthers responded in the second, loading the bases against Mottoshiski before Halle Greaige found the gap in right center to chase home a pair. Manhattanville's bats picked up their started in the bottom half as
Alexa Lazur (Carlsbad, Calif./La Costa Canyon) smashed her first collegiate homer, a two-run blast the put the Valiants up 3-2.
The long ball struck again in the third as
Angelina Cruz (Oceanside, Calif./Rancho Buena Vista) hit her second homer of the season with a two-run bomb that extended the home team's lead to 5-2. The Valiants tacked on one more in the fifth on
Samantha Reyer's (Oceanside, N.Y./Oceanside) RBI single in the fifth.
Reyer went 3-for-3 in the contest, her first three-hit game since April 25, 2024 against WestConn. Walsh scored four runs, working the count to get on base with three walks. Coleman swiped the first two bags of her career in the win alongside Fasce's steal of home.
Game Two Recap: Manhattanville 11, Purchase 0 (Five Innings)
Jori Wilkendorf (Livermore, Calif./Livermore) had one of the best starts of her young collegiate career while the bats provided run support aplenty as the Valiants completed the sweep.
The sophomore Wilkendorf surrendered just two hits in her first complete game shutout of her career while striking out a season-high three. Tuesday was also Wilkendorf's first start of the season where she did not allow a walk. With the win, she improved to 4-3 on the year and lowered her ERA to 2.88.
The Valiants put four runs on the board in the first after Wilkendorf sat down the side in order to open the game. After Fasce walked and stole second, the senior centerfielder was chased home on Cruz' single. Back-to-back singles from Coleman and Mottoshiski allowed Cruz to score before Reyer hit a bases-clearing double to push Manhattanville's lead up to 4-0.
Manhattanville had an even bigger inning in store in the third, scoring seven more runs on six hits. Walsh and Cruz led off with back-to-back solo homers before loading the bases with two away.
Cady Sickler (Kingston, N.Y./Kingston) drove in a pair with a single before Fasce plated two more with a double to swell the lead to 10-0. Fasce continued to show off her wheels, stealing third before scoring on Walsh's second hit of the inning, an RBI single that plated the Vals' 11
th and final run of the afternoon.
Wilkendorf allowed just one hit across the final three innings, retiring the final four batters she faced to close out the win.
Walsh and Cruz were the lone Valiant batters with multiple hits in the doubleheader finale. Tansey stole her fifth base of the season in the win, trailing only Fasce who pushed her team-leading total up to 13 with two more in the game.
