Women’s Lacrosse Downed by MSMC

PURCHASE, N.Y. - Opening the final week of regular season play, the Manhattanville University women's lacrosse team fell to the visiting Knights, 15-11, on Wednesday evening. With the result, the Valiants now slip to a 5-8 overall record, holding a 3-4 mark in conference play.

Although the Valiants were on the wrong side of the result, Manhattanville has clinched their spot in the 2025 Skyline Conference Women's Lacrosse Championship Tournament.

Manhattanville started off hot, firing the opening goal of the contest from the stick of Kaci Pierce (Niantic, Conn./East Lyme) with help from Pietra Cabral (Mineola, N.Y./Mineola), giving them the early lead. A couple of second later, the Valiants score on a man-up opportunity, with Cabral netting one of her own, seeing the Valiants take a 2-0 lead with 6:18 to play in the first quarter.

Shannon McGowan later sliced into the Valiant lead, scoring an unassisted marker with just over two and a half minutes to play in the opening frame. The Knights evened the score from Karlie Ferrucci, with an assist by Antonia Licardi, settling the score at two-all into the first quarter break.

To open the second quarter, Eve Shannon put the Knights in front for the first time on the night, getting a feed from Ferrucci, for a 3-2 score. Mount St. Mary then score the next three tallies, with two from McGowan and one from Delisianna Naccarato, giving the Knights a four-goal cushion, 6-2. Manhattanville would answer back with goals from Ashley Glass (Mahopac, N.Y./Lakeland) and Katherine Stahl (Middletown, R.I./Middletown), putting the Valiants back in striking distance. Naccarato netted two more goals, but Pierce was able to get one back, having the score sit at 8-5 in the Knights favor as the game headed into halftime.

Stahl was able to cut the deficit to down to two goals, with 12:14 to play in the third quarter, but a 5-1 goal swing for the Knights set them ahead firmly 13-7 as the contest headed into the fourth quarter.

After McGowan found the opening marker, the Valiants scored the next three goals, one from Sydney Natale (Greenwich, Conn./Greenwich) on a free position shot and two from Cabral, having the game sit at 14-10. Both teams would trade goals as the tilt winded down, having the Knights emerge victorious, 15-11.

Cabral finished with five points, three goals and two assists, as Stahl and Pierce both rounded out the point totals with three apiece.

Stahl and Mariah Stephens (Mission Viejo, Calif./Mission Viejo) contributed the most on the defensive portion of the stat sheet, having six and four ground balls, respectively. Both also finished with six draw controls.

Megan McDonald (Pearl River, N.Y./Pearl River) spent all sixty minutes in net, turning away seven shots.
