Women’s Lacrosse Hangs Tough with Maritime

PURCHASE, N.Y. - In the regular season finale, the Manhattanville University women's lacrosse team fell to Maritime, 17-10, on Friday night under the lights of GoValiants.com Field. With the result, the Valiants now sit at 3-5 in conference play, waiting for the final game in the Skyline landscape to see if they have secured a spot in the 2025 Skyline Conference Women's Lacrosse Championship tournament.

To open the first period, Eva Garcia connected with Gabrielle Nicolosi, giving the Privateers the 1-0 lead just under two minutes into the opening period. Manhattanville was able to even the score at one-all from an unassisted tally by Kaci Pierce (Niantic, Conn./East Lyme), with 11:10 remaining the period. The two squads would continue to play tag into the second period, not holding more than a two-goal lead at any point, with Valiant tallies from Ashley Glass (Mahopac, N.Y./Lakeland) and Pietra Cabral (Mineola, N.Y./Mineola), seeing the score at an even 5-5 with five minutes to play in the first half. Maritime would find two goals before the halftime break, for a 7-5 margin.

Maritime would rattle off four straight goals in the third period, jumping out to a 11-5 lead with 05:31 left in the third. Manhattanville would attempt to claw back into the contest with three of the next four goals, from the sticks of Sydney Natale (Greenwich, Conn./Greenwich), Katherine Stahl (Middletown, R.I./Middletown) and Pierce, but the Privateers would net one back for a 13-8 mark heading into the final period of the regular season.

Once again, Maritime would control the scoring, outscoring their counterparts four to two, seizing command of the contest, for a final score of 17-10.

Cabral and Pierce paced the Valiants in scoring, with four and three points respectively.

Mariah Stephens (Mission Viejo, Calif./Mission Viejo) caused the most turnovers on the defensive end with four.

Megan McDonald (Pearl River, N.Y./Pearl River) collected twelve saves on the day, spending all sixty minutes in net.
