WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – The Manhattanville University track and field teams were in action on Sunday at the University of Hartford Rage in the Cage. The Valiants competed in 14 different events over the course of the meet, the squad's penultimate outing ahead of the Skyline Conference Championships at the end of the month.
Uzoma Nweze () ran the pair of dashes, placing 22
nd in the 100-meter with a 14.86 second finish and 14
th in the 200, clocking in in 29.92 seconds.
Jen Schmidt (Williston Park, N.Y./Herricks) took 9
th in the 400 race with a time of 1:08.03, while
Adelina Rodriguez (Westbury, N.Y./Westbury) placed 12
th in the event with her finish of 1:14.85.
Jennifer Oliveros (New Rochelle, N.Y./New Rochelle) was the final track competitor in action on the women's side, making her outdoor season debut with a solid time of 6:35.18 in the 1500, good for 17
th.
Florence Harrison (Melbourne, Australia/Balwyn High School) and
Gigi Alvero (Yonkers, N.Y./St. Vincent Ferrer) were in action on the field side, with both competing in the shot put. Harrison scored 7.54 meters to take 17
th, while Alvero's 6.51 meter throw placed 20
th. Alvero also competed in the javelin, taking 15
th with her throw of 16.72 meters.
The men's team was busiest in the dash events, with three Valiants in action for both.
John Castaneda (Howell, N.J./Howell) paced the Valiant trio in the 100-meter with a split of 11.98 seconds for 19
th place.
Curtis Staie (Adams, N.Y./South Jefferson) finished one spot behind with his time of 12.01 second, while
Luca Perez (Somers, N.Y./Somers) posted a 12.28 second finish, good for 25
th.
Shai Graham (Bronx, N.Y./Bronx Theatre High School) took the lead in the 200-meter, placing fourth with a time of 23.06 seconds.
Aka Udeagha (Rye, N.Y./Rye) placed 11
th (24.12 seconds), while Castaneda took 20
th (25.09).
Graham,
Courtney Brown (Clarendon, Jamaica/Mount Vernon), Perez and Udeagha teamed up to run the 4x100, with the Valiant tandem finishing the relay in 45.84 seconds to place fourth.
Brown also competed in the 400-meter hurdles, taking second with a time of 59.86 seconds.
Zach Garrant (Poughkeepsie, NY/Spackenkill High School) took fifth in the race (1:02.89) before claiming third in the high jump with a score of 1.63 meters and 10
th in the javelin with a 23.33 meter throw.
Matt Boggi (New Rochelle, N.Y./New Rochelle) closed out the field events, taking seventh with a 37.56 meter discus throw and 18
th with a 11.35 meter shot put showing.
