Field Hockey Falls to FDU-Florham

MADISON, N.J. – Despite earning ten corners and getting five shots on goal, the Manhattanville field hockey team fell to FDU-Florham 3-0 at Robert T. Shields field on Wednesday night.

The Valiants (1-4) are yet to clinch an away victory, while the Devils (3-3) move to an even record.

FIRST HALF

Q1 – MANHATTANVILLE 0, FDU-FLORHAM 0

The Valiants earned three penalty corners, and three shots were ripped off the sticks of Fiona Doherty (Clarkstown, N.Y./Clarkstown South) (2) and Keira Guinan (Seaford, N.Y./Seaford) (1). Offense demanded control of the ball, not allowing the Devils a chance in the circle.

Q2 – FDU-FLORHAM 1, MANHATTANVILLE 0

Two additional penalty corners were grabbed by the Valiants, as well as a sole shot from Emma Masie (Seaford, N.Y./Seaford) in the quarter.

FDU scored the first goal of the night on the third penalty corner for the home team. Gianna Ercolani scored the goal off the cross-circle pass from Michalynn Castone.

SECOND HALF

Q3 – FDU-FLORHAM 3, MANHATTANVILLE 0

Defense only allowed the Devils to convert on two of nine penalty corners. Masie found her way to the circle to get the only shot of the quarter once again.

FDU came out of the locker rooms strong and quickly earned four penalty corners to start the half. Second and third goals of the night were off of penalty corners, one scored by Shirley Munoz and one by Julianna Medina.

Q4 – FDU-FLORHAM 3, MANHATTANVILLE 0

Hannah Doherty (Clarkstown, N.Y./Clarkstown South) aggressively put a stop to a one-on-one breakaway, keeping the score within three to start the final fifteen. Offense fought to earn four penalty corners in the final five minutes, with shots coming from Masie, F.Doherty (4), and Lulu LePage (Swansea, Mass./Elmira College) during that span.

Game Notes

  • The Valiants were outshot 13-22.
  • H.Doherty posted five saves during the game.
  • F.Doherty's six shots during tonight's 60 minutes come in second for the most this season, only behind when she shot seven against Drew on Sept. 2.

Up Next – Remaining on the road, the Valiants head to Paxton, Mass., to take on Anna Maria College on Saturday, Sept. 20, at 1 PM.
