LePage Stops Shutout in Field Hockey 1-3 Loss

ALBANY, N.Y. - Manhattanville field hockey was held to one goal in the 1-3 loss to Sage College on Thursday night at Albany Alumni Turf.

The Valiants (3-6) snap the two-game winning streak while the Gators (3-3, 1-1 EMPIRE 8) even out its record.

FIRST HALF

Q1 – SAGE 2, MANHATTANVILLE 0

The Valiants came out cold to start the game.

The Gators scored first with a breakaway solo goal from Catherine Newkirk. The second goal of the first fifteen came from Skyler Van Wormer off a pass from Kari Gage.

Q2 – SAGE 2, MANHATTANVILLE 0

With just 10:52 remaining until halftime, gameplay was halted due to a weather delay that lasted just under 60 minutes.

Returning from the locker rooms, both teams posted two penalty corners with no additional action heading into the second half.

SECOND HALF

Q3 – SAGE 2, MANHATTANVILLE 1

Keeping the Gators from extending the lead, Hannah Doherty (Clarkstown, N.Y./Clarkstown South) recorded two saves and kept any additional goals from coming from their two corner attempts.

The Valiants hit the scoreboard with three minutes left in the quarter, with the sole goal coming from senior Lulu LePage (Swansea, Mass./Elmira College).

Q4 – SAGE 3, MANHATTANVILLE 1

Despite three more saves for Doherty and a defensive save from Julia Huertas (Shirley, N.Y./William Floyd), Sage College was able to secure the victory with Newkirk scoring her second of the night in a man-up situation on the turf.

Up Next – The Valiants head into the last away game of the stretch against Gordon College (0-10, 0-2 NEW ENGLAND), heading up to Wenham, MA on Wednesday, Oct 1 at 4 PM.
