PURCHASE, N.Y. – The Manhattanville University women's tennis team continued its hot start to the 2025 season, picking up a third-straight win to remain undefeated after taking down Mount Saint Vincent, 6-1. The Valiants are now 3-0 overall and 2-0 in Skyline play, while the Dolphins are 1-2 after dropping its conference opener.
With the win, Manhattanville is off to a 3-0 start for just the third time ever in program history. The Valiants last won its first three matches of the year in the 2004 campaign, and are now one win shy of tying the best start in program history from 1998.
Saturday was the first meeting between the two programs since 2006 after Mount Saint Vincent halted its women's tennis program in 2009. The Valiants swept all three doubles flights to capture the first point of the day. Amaya Oritz and
Jenifer Lalman (Schenectady, N.Y./Schenectady) repped Manhattanville in the top flight, with the duo besting Madeleine Maras and Alyssa Mendoza 6-1.
Mikhalia Grant (Montego Bay, Jamaica/New Visions Charter High School for Advanced Math and Science II) and
Bianca Reyna (Yonkers, N.Y./Roosevelt) defeated Hannah Bone and Kaitlyn Mendez 6-2 in No. 3 play shortly before
Adrianna Filippelli (Mastic, N.Y./William Floyd) and
Addison Ortiz (Bronx, N.Y./High School for Health Professions and Human Services) notched a 6-2 victory of their own over Divana Carrillo and Zoe Fields in No. 2s.
Three different Valiants recorded shutout wins in singles action to officially secure the victory for the home team.
Maria Gutierrez (Norwalk, Conn./Brien McMahon) (No. 5 vs Bone),
Addison Ortiz (Bronx, N.Y./High School for Health Professions and Human Services) (No. 3 vs Carrillo) and
Amaya Ortiz (Bronx, N.Y./High School for Health Professions and Human Services) (No. 2 vs Mendoza) picked up 6-0, 6-0 sweeps to continue Manhattanville's momentum. In between the shutouts, Filippelli won 6-1, 6-0 over Maras on the show court.
Manhattanville's final victory of the day came courtesy of Lalman, who defeated Mendez 6-3, 7-5 on the No. 4 court. Grant fought valiantly against Fields in the No. 6 showdown, falling in a 6-7 (5-7), 7-6 (7-5), 9-11 three-setter.
