PURCHASE, N.Y – Both the Manhattanville women's tennis and men's soccer programs pulled out wins this past week with stand-out performances from Adrianna Filippelli (Mastic, N.Y./William Floyd) and Lucas Fernandez (Stamford, Conn./Stamford), earning them the Valiant Of The Week titles for Sept. 22 – Sept. 28.

WOMEN'S TENNIS – ADRIANNA FILIPPELLI

The Mastic, N.Y. native went 4-0 across her tilts last week as the Valiants improved to 3-0 overall for just the third time ever in program history. Filippelli teamed up with doubles partner Addison Ortiz (Bronx, N.Y./High School for Health Professions and Human Services) twice in a pair of No. 2 Doubles wins over Baruch and Mount Saint Vincent. In solos, Filippelli won 6-0, 6-4 against Baruch in No. 2 play before taking the mantle for the top flight against Mount Saint Vincent on Saturday, winning 6-1, 6-0 in her first No. 1 play of the season.

Women's tennis hosts Purchase College on Wednesday, Oct. 1, for their breast cancer awareness match at 4 PM.

MEN'S SOCCER – LUCAS FERNANDEZ

Fernandez had an impact on both of the Valiants' back-to-back conference victories. In the home game of the week against Purchase College, the Stamford, Conn. native posted his first goal of the season, extending the lead by two, creating a cushion for the 4-1 final. On the road for the Saturday match-up against Mount Saint Mary (NY), Fernandez notched one assist on the day towards the Valiants' first goal towards the 2-0 victory.

Men's soccer returns home Tuesday, Sept. 30, at 7 PM to face USMMA.
