PURCHASE, N.Y. – Manhattanville men's soccer hosted the United States Merchant Marine Academy, dropping the defensive battle 1-2, Tuesday night at GoValiants.com Field.
The Valiants drop its first conference matchup, moving to 2-1-1 (4-7-1). The Mariners move to 6-3-2 (3-1-1 SKY).
FIRST HALF – MANHATTANVILLE 0, USMMA 0
During the first forty-five minutes of gameplay, shots were sent off by Manuel Morales (Madrid, Spain/International College Spain) , Alessio Scanapieco (Westerly, R.I./LaSalle Academy) , and Luis Del Riego (Madrid, Spain/Rafa Nadal International) for the Valiants without success.
Reigning Skyline Goalkeeper of the week, AJ Lucas (Beacon, N.Y./Beacon) , racked up three statement-making saves, forcing the tie to remain into halftime.
SECOND HALF – USMMA 2, MANHATTANVILLE 1
Roberto Velasquez-Osorio (Monticello, N.Y./Monticello) scored the first goal of the game for the Valiants with a top-shelf rocket off a free kick from Morales. While Lucas tallied another save in the half.
Marine Cal Lutz scored the first goal for USMMA to put the away team out by one. The game winner found its way to the back of the goal after a defensive error on a throw-in to the side of the box.

- Overall record against the Mariners comes to 12-28-1 dating back to 1983, breaking the stretch beginning Sept. 30. 2014 through Oct. 19, 2024, without a loss.
