Three Valiants Score in Loss to Dean

PURCHASE N.Y.- Junior Keira Guinan (Seaford, N.Y./Seaford), freshman Emelina Leccese (Rocky Point, N.Y./Rocky Point), and Junior Shannon Keena (Pearl River, N.Y./Pearl River) grab firsts for the season as Manhattanville Field Hockey came up short in a nail-biter against Dean, 4-3, on Friday afternoon at GoValiants.com Field.
 
The Valiants move to 0-3. The Bulldogs now sit at 3-0.
 
FIRST HALF
Q1 – MANHATTANVILLE UNIVERSITY 1, DEAN COLLEGE 0
 
The Valiants started the scoring early with Guinan finding the back of the cage one minute into the game. Guinan swept the ball in off a strong cross-cage pass from freshman Emma Masie (Seaford, N.Y./Seaford).
 
Q2 – MANHATTANVILLE UNIVERSITY 1, DEAN COLLEGE 1
 
Manhattanville posted two shots on goal from juniors Fiona Doherty (Clarkstown, N.Y./Clarkstown South) and Sabina Cosmo (Harrison, N.Y./Harrison), respectively, to wrap the first half of play.  
 
The Bulldogs scored its first goal of the game off back-to-back corners with Emma Gragen sending the ball into the cage with the assist from Emily Kilpatrick.
 
SECOND HALF
Q3 – DEAN COLLEGE 3, MANHATTANVILLE UNIVERSITY 2
 
Two minutes into the second half of gameplay, Masie connected to Leccese, who sent a rocket from the top of the circle to regain a 2-1 lead.
 
Dean found its way to the circle shortly after Leccese's goal, answering just 43 seconds later with a goal from Sydnee Ramos. The Bulldogs grabbed its first lead of the night with five to play in the quarter with a goal from Emily Yazzetti assisted by Gragen.
 
Q4 – DEAN COLLEGE 4, MANHATTANVILLE UNIVERSITY 3
 
Fifty-seven seconds into the final fifteen minutes of regulation, the Valiants executed a picture-perfect corner. Leccese sent the insert to Guinan off-center from the top of the circle, where the ball received a tip, sending it to the back of the cage by Keena.
 
Both teams fought a defensive battle throughout the third quarter. Valiant efforts led by junior goalkeeper, posting four saves in the quarter. Bulldogs kept the board even with a defensive save from Jadyn Crowell.
 
Dean was able to pull away in the 59th minute of the game with Gragen's second goal of the night from Yazzetti. Securing the victory and remaining undefeated to begin the 2025 campaign.
 
 
Game Notes
  • Leccese's goal was the first of her collegiate career.
  • The Bulldogs outshot the Valiants 13-10.
  • The three goals in tonight's matchup mark the most goals scored in a game since the 4-2 victory over Russell Sage on Sept 25, 2024.
