RYE, N.Y. – Olivia Cimorelli (West Deptford, N.J./The Hill School / Ironbound Elite) became the fastest player in Manhattanville University women's hockey to log 1,000 career saves with another standout performance on Friday night as the Valiants fell by a final of 2-0 to visiting SUNY Oswego. Manhattanville drops to 2-11-1 on the year while the Lakers improve to 8-6-0.
The sophomore goaltender Cimorelli was once again a force in the cage for Manhattanville with 40 saves, the sixth time this season she has recorded 40 or more stops. With 9:15 left in the third period, Cimorelli denied Georgia Cunliffe with her 31
st save of the night, bringing her to 1,000 saves for her career in just her 31
st collegiate game, both fittingly appropriate for the goalie donning number 31 on her sweater. Cimorelli is just the sixth goalie in program history to reach 1,000 saves for the Valiants and did it faster than any of the other five before her, three games quicker to the century mark than all-time saves leader Franny Gerardi '24.
The Lakers dominated the possession battle all night, outshooting Manhattanville 42-8 in the contest. Oswego got the two-goal lead in the first as Meagan Smith and Lauren Riccobelli managed to give Cimorelli her lone two blemishes on the night with the pair of goals separated by a span of six minutes.
Despite Oswego setting up residency in the offensive zone for the majority of the contest, Cimorelli kept the game within striking distance with 12 saves in the second and 16 in the third. The Valiants added 19 blocks as a team, with
Erin Flaherty (Rockland, Mass./Canterbury School) putting her body on the line with five to lead the defensive effort.
Taylor Willoughby (Camrose, Alberta, Canada/Northern Alberta Extreme) and
Ali Joly (Pickering, Ontario, Canada/Dunbarton / Caledon Coyotes) notched a pair of shots each to lead Manhattanville's offensive chance.
Harper Weisbeck (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford Sutherland),
Kayla Leonard (Marshfield, Mass./Marshfield High School) and
Emilija Tučiūtė (Vilnius, Lithuania/Ontario Hockey Academy) each finished the night with a shot apiece.
It was also a one-sided affair on the faceoff dot with Oswego winning 31 of the game's 44 draws.
Abby Kauffman (Hershey, Pa./Hershey / New Jersey Colonials) won a team-high four faceoffs for the Valiants.
Manhattanville's power play finished 0-for-2 with one shot, while the penalty kill unit was able to stymie Oswego , holding the Lakers 0-for-4 with 11 shots.
