RYE, N.Y. – Manhattanville University women's ice hockey dropped the second game of its series against Oswego State, 6–2, at Playland Ice Casino on Saturday afternoon. The Valiants fell to 2–11-2 (2-2 UCHC) on the season, while the Lakers improved to 9–6 (3-1 SUNYAC) .
Catrina Chinetti (Hyde Park, Mass./Boston Latin Academy / East Coast Wizards) found the back of the net for the Valiants on a man-up opportunity to tie the game at one in the first period.
Katherine Stahl (Middletown, R.I./Middletown) and
Taylor Willoughby (Camrose, Alberta, Canada/Northern Alberta Extreme) both recorded assists on Chinetti's second goal of the season.
Oswego struck first just under four minutes into the contest. Three minutes after Manhattanville tied the score, the Lakers regained the lead. The visitors converted on three power-play opportunities in the second period to extend their advantage to four goals.
Manhattanville capitalized on another power play in the third period, as Chinetti sent the puck to Emilija Tučiūtė, who then dished it to
Abby Mellen (Rockport, Mass./Northfield Mount Hermon / Vermont Academy / East Coast Wizards) for her first goal of the season. The score stood at 5–2 with 15 minutes remaining in regulation.
The Lakers sealed the win with a final goal scored with less than 30 seconds remaining, securing the 6–2 decision.
Stahl and
Erin Flaherty (Rockland, Mass./Canterbury School) led the defensive effort, each stepping in front of four shots.
Abby Kauffman (Hershey, Pa./Hershey / New Jersey Colonials),
Lillee Dougherty (Wakefield, R.I./Portsmouth Abbey School), and
Claire Hazard (Barnstable, Mass./Worcester Academy) applied pressure in the faceoff circle to combine for five wins, while
Jada Mackinnon (Barrington, Nova Scotia, Canada/King's Edgehill School) added four of her own.
Olivia Cimorelli (West Deptford, N.J./The Hill School / Ironbound Elite) posted a .882 save percentage, making 45 saves in the contest. The performance was just two saves shy of her season high of 47 against Nazareth on Nov. 15 and marked her seventh game of the season with at least 40 saves.
