MIDDLETOWN, CT — The Manhattanville University Track and Field team took to the concourse Saturday at the Wesleyan University Indoor Invite where they continued their second half of the season competing at Wesleyan for the second time this season. The men's team competed in four individual events and two relays whereas the women's team competed in five individual events, and one relay.
Leading the way on the men's side was Shai Graham (Bronx, N.Y./Bronx Theatre High School) who placed sixth overall after collecting a time of 7.25 in the preliminaries and then a 7.14 time in the finals for the 60-meter race. In the preliminaries for the 60-meter dash, Alex Carney (Unknown/Unknown) secured a 16th place finish with a time of 7.40, with John Castaneda (Howell, N.J./Howell) following closely behind securing a time of 7.43 for 20th. The last Valiant to cross the finish line in the 60-meter race was Luca Perez (Somers, N.Y./Somers) who earned 36th place with his time of 7.82.
In the 600 meter dash, Zach Garrant (Poughkeepsie, NY/Spackenkill High School) secured a final placement of 17th with a time of 1:34.54. Closely behind was Christian Zita (Freehold, N.J./Colts Neck) who finished after 1:49.90 sitting in 21st place.
With only one Valiant runner for the mile race, Danny Noia (Honolulu, Hawaii/McKinley) showed out, earning 15th place with an impressive time of 5:13.27. Joining him as a sole competitor in an event for Manhattanville, Luca Perez (Somers, N.Y./Somers) placed 23rd with a long jump of 5.11 meters.
The men's team competed two groupings in the 4x400 race with the first foursome of Joey DeMilio (White Plains, N.Y./White Plains), Garrant, Perez, and Noia, earned 6th with a time of 3:57.40. Nipping at their heels was the second Manhattanville foursome of Carney, Castaneda, Zita, and Graham, who earned a seventh place spot overall with their time of 4:03.33.
On the women's side, Gabby Billetz was the standout to see. In shot put, she threw a distance of 11.49M to earn 4th place overall. Following behind her closely was Jayda Birch (Queens, N.Y./Excelsior Preparatory) landing in ninth place after she threw a distance of 10.97M. The last thrower for Manhattanville was Lilly Savnik (Mastic, N.Y./William Floyd) who earned 34th place with a distance of 6.55M.
Alicia Bibi (Marlborough, Mass./Marlborough) was the next leader to cross the line for the women's securing a 10th place finish in the women's 600 with a time of 2:07.73. The foursome of Uzo Nweze, Samiyah Samuels (), Saage Palmer (Brooklyn, N.Y./Medgar Evers College Preparatory School), and Birch was also highly successful in their 4x400 meter race ending in 11th after a time of 5:07.48.
The women's side continued to push ahead securing three placements in a row in the mile race with Samantha Delgado landing in 21st after her 6:53.63 mile, followed by Jennifer Oliveros (New Rochelle, N.Y./New Rochelle) in 23rd at 6:59.24, and Adelina Rodriguez (Westbury, N.Y./Westbury) in 23rd after a 7:05.78 mile time.
In the 60 meter dash, Palmer secured a 8.86 time to earn 20th with Samuels ending shortly after at 9.28 to secure a 27th place finish. Palmer continued her trend placing 21st in the women's 200 after a time of 30.14 with Savnik trailing behind at 34.14 for 29th place.
Up Next – Manhattanville Track and Field will travel to Lowell, Massachusetts, next weekend to compete in the two-day Riverhawk Invitational, hosted by the University of Massachusetts Lowell. Action is set to begin on Friday.
