RYE, N.Y. — The Manhattanville University women's ice hockey team put together a commanding performance on home ice at Playland Ice Casino, rolling past the Hawks of Hilbert College in decisive fashion securing their first at-home win of the season. The victory was highlighted by a relentless offensive attack that produced 78 shots on goal, contributions from a wide range of scorers, and a disciplined, impenetrable defensive effort.
Manhattanville set the tone early, opening the contest with a flurry of 18 consecutive shots on the Hilbert goaltender within the first five minutes of play. The Valiants maintained steady pressure throughout the opening period, limiting the Hawks to just four shots while generating 20 of their own. That sustained effort paid off at the 15:20 mark, when Catrina Chinetti (Hyde Park, Mass./Boston Latin Academy / East Coast Wizards) opened the scoring off a feed from Jada Mackinnon (Barrington, Nova Scotia, Canada/King's Edgehill School), sending Manhattanville into the first intermission with a 1–0 lead.
The Valiants returned for the second period firing on all cylinders, asserting full control of the game. Manhattanville dominated possession and pace, out shooting Hilbert 26–1 during the frame. At 8:34, Harper Weisbeck (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford Sutherland) tallied her first goal of the season, finishing a setup from Lillee Dougherty (Wakefield, R.I./Portsmouth Abbey School) to extend the lead to 2–0. The pressure never let up, and at 13:21 Mackinnon added another goal with an assist from Colby Cantor (Norwell, Mass./North American Hockey Academy), giving the Valiants a 3–0 advantage heading into the final period.
Both teams battled for possession in the third, but Manhattanville continued to dictate play. Just under six minutes into the period, Cantor netted an unassisted goal to push the lead to 4–0. The Valiants capitalized again on a power-play opportunity when Abby Mellen (Rockport, Mass./Northfield Mount Hermon / Vermont Academy / East Coast Wizards) found the back of the net off an assist from Jayden Wilder (Rochester, N.H./Lovell Academy), making it 5–0.
Manhattanville closed the contest with authority. With 3:01 remaining, Chinetti and MacKinnon connected once more, sealing a beginning-to-end evening for the duo and 6–0 victory for the Valiants.
