OSWEGO, N.Y. – Hannah Doherty (Clarkstown, N.Y./Clarkstown South) reached new heights, recording her three-hundredth save in field hockey's double-overtime loss to Oswego, 2-1. The Valiants (5-8) record its second straight overtime loss, hitting double overtime for the first time since last season.
Â
Doherty has found her way into the record book, sitting at ninth in all-time goalie saves as well as all-time goalie minutes.
During her sophomore season, Doherty made her collegiate debut on Aug 28, 2024, against Oswego on her home turf where she reordered her first save. With 14 saves today against the Lakers, Doherty recorded her three-hundredth save in three years with the Valiants.
Â
The Valiants took an early lead as Emma Masie (Seaford, N.Y./Seaford) sent the ball around the keeper straight to Kiera Guinan's stick and to the back of the cage.
After holding on to the shutout through the first half, the Lakers sought for the opportunity to tie the game, successfully finding the back of the net just three minutes into the third quarter.
After an evenly matched fourth quarter and first overtime, the Valiants succumbed to penalties with three cards leaving just four players on the field. With the three-man up opportunity, the home team overrun the circle and sent the winning goal past the laid-out goalie.
