Women's Tennis Notches Second-Straight Sweep in Victory Over Mount Saint Vincent

PURCHASE, N.Y. – The Manhattanville University women's tennis team earned its second 7-0 sweep in as many matches on Saturday afternoon, blanking Skyline Conference foe Mount Saint Vincent to cap off a perfect week of play. The Valiants improve to 3-1 overall and now sit 2-0 in conference play.

After timing and a venue change brought the action onto the Valiants' home courts on campus, Manhattanville picked up right where the team left off on Wednesday's 7-0 victory over Sarah Lawrence. The Valiants did not drop a game in three doubles draws, with Manhattanville's top pairing of Amaya Ortiz (Bronx, N.Y./High School for Health Professions and Human Services) and Jenifer Lalman (Schenectady, N.Y./Schenectady) blanking the Dolphins' Zoe Fields and Kayla Wallack 6-0. Adrianna Filippelli (Mastic, N.Y./William Floyd) and Addison Ortiz (Bronx, N.Y./High School for Health Professions and Human Services) earned a 6-0 shutout against Jadamarie Henry and Kaitlyn Mendez in No. 2s, while Maria Gutierrez (Norwalk, Conn./Brien McMahon) and Maddie Maras (Brunswick, M.D./Brunswick) had equal success in No. 3s play over Naomi Green and Newone Samuels.

The Valiants added three more sweeps in singles play, led by Filippelli posting a 6-0, 6-0 win on the show court over Fields. On Court 4, Gutierrez blanked Henry, while Maras earned a shutout over Samuels on Court 5. Mikhalia Grant (Montego Bay, Jamaica/New Visions Charter High School for Advanced Math and Science II) went on to best Green 6-1, 6-0 in No. 6 play, while Addison Ortiz (Bronx, N.Y./High School for Health Professions and Human Services) defeated Mendez 6-2, 6-1 in No. 3s. Lalman capped off the sweep with her win in the No. 2 flight, defeating Wallack 6-3, 6-1.
