PURCHASE, N.Y. - The Manhattanville University men's soccer team continued its dominant run through Skyline Conference play on Tuesday evening, cruising to a 9-1 victory over Larah Lawrence College (3-5-4, 1-3-1 SKY). The win improved the Valiants to 9-1-3 overall and a perfect 6-0-0 in conference play.
The Valiants were quick to get on the board as Manuel Morales (Madrid, Spain/International College Spain) opened the scoring in the 10th minute. This marked Morales's second goal of the season. The Gryphons responded with an equalizer from Kairos Diaz at 20:35, but the Valiants took complete control late in the opening half. Luis Del Riego (Madrid, Spain/Rafa Nadal International) broke the tie in the 40th minute, scoring his first goal of the season off an assist from Alex Guevara (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y./Walter Panas) before Keanu Stingone (Kew Gardens, N.Y./Archbishop Molloy) found the back of the net for his first goal of the season less than three minutes later. Tiernan McLaughlin (Yonkers, N.Y./Fordham Prep) capped off the first-half surge at 44:29, scoring off a feed from Alessio Scanapieco (Westerly, R.I./LaSalle Academy) to send Manhattanville into the half ahead 4-1.
The Valiants continued to pour it on after the break. Kenneth Suqui (Sleepy Hollow, N.Y./Sleepy Hollow) converted a penalty kick in the 58th minute before McLaughlin struck again at 61:55 for his sixth goal of the season off an assist from Marco Palushaj (Northville, Mich./Northville), extending the lead 6-1.
Manhattanville added three more goals over the final 14 minutes. Alec Pineda (Yonkers, N.Y./Port Chester) scored his first of the night in the 77th minute with JJ Longno-Phoummany (Brighton, N.Y./Brighton) providing the assist. The pair switched roles shortly after, with Pineda setting up Longno-Phoummany for the Valiants' eighth goal at 81:46. Pineda then put the finishing touches on the victory with his second goal at 89:49, assisted by Roberto Velasquez-Osorio (Monticello, N.Y./Monticello) and Morales.
The Valiants' attack featured seven different goal scorers, led by McLaughlin and Pineda with two goals apiece. Morales finished with a goal and an assist, while Longno-Phoummany also recorded a goal and an assist. Manhattanville overwhelmed the Gryphons offensively, holding a 34-13 advantage in shots.
In net, Dwayne Brown II (Bronx, N.Y./Cardinal Spellman) played the full 90 minutes, making five saves while allowing just one goal as the Valiants secured their sixth consecutive Skyline Conference victory to remain unbeaten in conference play.
