OCEANSIDE, N.Y. – Making a trip to Long Island, the Manhattanville University men's tennis team fell 7-0 to Division II Adelphi University on Tuesday night. The Valiants fall to 1-5 with the loss.
Despite the difference in division level, Manhattanville's top pairing of
Thomas Jouanneau (Luneville, France/Lycee Arago) and
Elouan Charretteur (Fontainebleau, France/Lycée International Francois Premier 1er) put up a fight against Andrea Albiero and Viktor Hockl before falling 7-5. The Valiants' other duos suffered 6-0 loss, with
Derwin Guzman (Bronx, N.Y./Frederick Douglass Academy) and
Sami Badre-Hume (Brooklyn, N.Y./Bay Ridge Prep) being blanked by Thomas Horsley and Louca Bertone while
Nicholas Gervasi (Melbourne, Victoria, Australia/Epsom College) and
John Curtin (Brewster, N.Y./Brewster) faced a similar fate in No. 3s to Arturo Beitman and Matias Hoyos.
Jouanneau and Charretteur went on to have the strongest showings in their singles flights. The former dropped a 6-3, 6-3 decision to Albiero on the show court, while the latter was taken down by Spyridon Papageorgiou in No. 2s, 6-2, 6-2. Guzman was bested by Horlsey in No. 3s, 6-1, 6-0, while Badre-Hume rebounded from a 6-1 defeat in the opening set against Leo Silverston in the No. 4 flight to battle in a 6-3 loss in the second.
Gervasi lost 6-0, 6-0 to Beitman on the No. 5 court, while
Robert Zomer (Bussum, the Netherlands/Sint Vituscollege) in his spring debut to Hoyos, 6-1, 6-2.
