PURCHASE, N.Y. – The Manhattanville University men's tennis team picked up its first win of the spring slate on Thursday afternoon, taking down UMass Boston 7-0. The Valiants improve to 2-5 with the win, while the Beacons fall to 4-4.
The Valiants opened the day with victories in the top two doubles flights to snag the first point.
Thomas Jouanneau (Luneville, France/Lycee Arago) and
Kazuma Kato (Nerima, Tokyo, Japan/Aioi Gakuin) defeated William Kubinex and Thomas Ameral 6-2 in the No. 1 flight, with
Elouan Charretteur (Fontainebleau, France/Lycée International Francois Premier 1er) and
Derwin Guzman (Bronx, N.Y./Frederick Douglass Academy) winning by a matching score in No. 2s over Dominik Dwyer and Mario Pangione.
John Curtin (Brewster, N.Y./Brewster) and
Robert Zomer (Bussum, the Netherlands/Sint Vituscollege) fell 2-6 to Sam Tavassoli Hojati and Shaoyuan Song, but the Valiants still headed into singles up 1-0.
The home team took all six singles matches to close out the win.
Sami Badre-Hume (Brooklyn, N.Y./Bay Ridge Prep) was the first to take care of business, defeating James Tiger Li 6-1, 6-0 in No. 6s. Jouanneau then took down Dwyer on the show court, 6-2, 6-3, before Charretteur outlasted Ameral in No. 3s, 6-2, 1-6, 6-1. Guzman was victorious in No. 4s over Song, 6-4, 6-1 while Kato defeated Kubinec 7-6, 6-3 (7-3) in No. 2s and
Nicholas Gervasi (Melbourne, Victoria, Australia/Epsom College) completed the sweep over Tavassoli Hojati in No. 5s, 4-6, 6-1, 6-2.
