PURCHASE, N.Y. – The Manhattanville University men's tennis team was victorious in its conference opener on Tuesday afternoon, sweeping Saint Joseph's Long Island 7-0 to improve to 3-5 on the year.
The Valiants got started on their second-straight 7-0 victory with 6-0 wins in all three doubles flights.
Elouan Charretteur (Fontainebleau, France/Lycée International Francois Premier 1er) and
Kazuma Kato (Nerima, Tokyo, Japan/Aioi Gakuin) blanked Nolan Knipfing and Chris Lally in No. 1s while
Nicholas Gervasi (Melbourne, Victoria, Australia/Epsom College) and
Sami Badre-Hume (Brooklyn, N.Y./Bay Ridge Prep) defeated Vincent Engel and Gavin Hughes on the No. 3 court. Soon after,
Thomas Jouanneau (Luneville, France/Lycee Arago) and
Derwin Guzman (Bronx, N.Y./Frederick Douglass Academy) put the finishing touches on the doubles sweep, shutting out Tim Celone and Anthony Flaacomio in the No. 2 flight.
Manhattanville kept rolling through singles play, notching four 6-0, 6-0 wins. Jouanneau picked up the first sweep victory in No. 1s over Knipfing, while Guzman blanked Flaacomio in No. 4s.
Robert Zomer (Bussum, the Netherlands/Sint Vituscollege) took to the No. 5 court to shut out Engel as
John Curtin (Brewster, N.Y./Brewster) had his own 6-0, 6-0 victory on the No. 6 court against Hughes.
Charretteur defeated Celone 6-0, 6-1 in No. 3s while Kazuma completed the sweep with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Lally in the No. 2 flight.
