PURCHASE, N.Y. – For the second-straight season, senior forward
Esther Ramos (Queens, N.Y./Forest Hills) has been named to the Skyline All-Conference Women's Basketball First Team, the Skyline unveiled today.
Ramos becomes a two-time All-Conference selection with this year's appointment as she firmly cemented herself as one of the top players in the Skyline since becoming a mainstay of the Valiants' starting five last season.
The Queens, N.Y. native led the Valiants in scoring and rebounds with 14.9 points and 6.8 boards per game during the regular season, with her scoring rate improving by more than three points a game from her previous career-high a season ago. Ramos also matched her previous best with 40 steals while adding 43 assists and four blocks.
Entering the postseason shooting .489 from the field, the third-highest rate in the conference, Ramos was sixth in the Skyline in total points and eighth in points per game. She reached double figures offensively in all but three games during the season, surpassing 20 six times. Ramos posted three double-doubles over the course of the regular season, highlighted by a 24 point, 15 rebound performance against Farmingdale on Nov. 22.
Ramos and the Valiants went 20-5 overall and finished with an 18-2 mark in conference action to earn the No. 1 seed in the Skyline Conference Championship Tournament for the second time in the last three seasons. The team awaits the winner of Wednesday's First Round matchup between No. 4 Farmingdale and No. 5 Saint Joseph's Long Island on Friday inside Kennedy Gymnasium for the semifinal round at 5 p.m.
