Baseball Takes Season Opener over Centenary

HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. – Manhattanville baseball began the 2026 campaign at Centenary University (New Jersey) with a commanding 9-4 victory on Saturday afternoon. The Valiants start the season 1-0 while the Cyclones drop to 0-2 in the young season.

Jack Moeller (Mahopac, N.Y./Mahopac) led the way at the plate, going 4-for-4 with a home run, a double, and three RBIs. Moeller was a threat on base as well, recording a walk and a stolen base while finding his way across home plate twice.
Also scoring twice in the nine, Gregory Tashik (Midland Park, N.J./Midland Park Jr./Sr.) went 2-for-3 with a walk and an RBI. Alex Exarchakis (Monroe, N.Y./Monroe Woodbury) found his way on base with one hit, one error, and one stolen base; recording one RBI and was left stranded twice.
On the mound, Ryan McCann (Medford, N.Y./Longwood) allowed four earned runs on three hits, two walks, and had five strikeouts, sending back three looking. In 75 pitches, he got the remaining ten outs with six flyouts and four groundouts.  
Aidan Tumbleson (Manalapan, N.J./Manalapan) threw 2.1 innings, giving up one hit in eight batters, recording one strikeout. Jack Lally (Ogdensburg, N.J./Wallkill Valley) finished out on the rubber with 1.2 innings pitched with no hits, no walks, and two of five batters struck out.

HOW IT HAPPENED
FIRST INNING
The Valiants scored early with a single from Tashik sent Griffin White (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Arlington) home from third.
FOURTH INNING
Exarchakis added to the lead on a Cyclones' balk. Anthony Peterson (Hasbrouck Heights, N.J./Hasbrouck Heights) recorded an RBI from a sacrifice fly to center, scoring Moeller.
The home team sent two across the plate on a wild pitch by McCann, putting two on the scoreboard.
FIFTH INNING
Tashik scored his second of the day on a wild pitch before Exarchakis scored after stealing third base. Going to the bottom of the fifth up 5-2.
Centenary scored after advancing second and allowing the batter to reach first on an error, before bringing the game within a run with an RBI groundout.
SEVENTH INNING
Exarchakis reached first on a fielder's choice, recording the RBI as Alex Adipietro (Bellmore, N.Y./Wellington C. Mepham) scored. Moeller sealed the deal for the Valiants, sending the ball over the right field wall for a three-run home run to push the lead out to 9-4.


Up Next – The Valiants head to Myrtle Beach for their spring break tournament; the first game is set for a doubleheader against Cairn University on Mar. 7 at 9 AM.
