MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – Manhattanville baseball traveled south to partake in The Ripken Experience over spring break, opening the week by taking both games of the doubleheader in first-time matchup against Cairn on Saturday morning.
GAME ONE – MANHATTANVILLE 14, CAIRN 1
Baseball's eight-run fifth inning secured the first win of the day over the Highlanders.
Ryan McCann (Medford, N.Y./Longwood) went a full seven innings on the mound, allowing no free bases, sending six down while giving up five hits and one earned run.
Logan Alberto (East Patchogue, N.Y./Bellport Senior) led his team with four RBIs, going 2-for-4 from the plate and scoring one.
Chris Goohs (Nesconset, N.Y./Smithtown H.S. East) and
Mike Scozzafava (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y./Walter Panas) sent three in to score, while Scozzafava also found himself 2-for-4 on the day.

Scott Ennist Jr. (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Franklin Delano Roosevelt), and Scozzafava sent the ball over the fence for the first time this season.
THIRD INNING – CAIRN 1, MANAHATTANVILLE 0
The Highlanders found the board first with a single from Cameron Burnes, scoring Noah Steigleman.
FOURTH INNING – MANHATTANVILLE 2, CAIRN 1
Logan Alberto (East Patchogue, N.Y./Bellport Senior) tied the game for the Valiants, scoring
Aidan Rosario (Greenwich, Conn./Greenwich) from third with an RBI single.
Gregory Tashik (Midland Park, N.J./Midland Park Jr./Sr.) crossed home plate to take the lead off of a sacrifice fly to center from Moeller.
FIFTH INNING – MANHATTANVILLE 10, CAIRN 1
Ennist Jr. began the explosive inning with a solo shot over the left field wall for his first home run in a Valiants uniform. Scozzafava kept it going with a solo homerun to follow for his first of the year.
Encarnacion scored on a wild pitch to push the lead out to 5-1.
Alberto sent two home with an RBI single up the middle. Tashik crossed home next on a wild pitch. Scozzafava reached on an error, while Moeller and Alberto scored to end the inning with a nine-run advantage.
SIXTH INNING – MANAHATTANVILLE 14, CAIRN 1
John Cullinan (Massapequa, N.Y/St. John the Baptist Diocesan) scored first on a sacrifice flyout to left field by Alberto. Goohs wrapped up scoring with a three-run bolt, bringing home
Alex Enjem (Derby, Conn./Derby) and
Anthony Mezzaucella (New Rochelle, N.Y./New Rochelle) with him.
GAME TWO – MANHATTANVILLE 7, CAIRN 3
Four runs in the seventh inning gave the Valiants the advantage in an even set game two against the Highlanders.
Griffin White (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Arlington) led his squad to the second win of the day, going 2-for-4 with three RBIs and scoring two runs. One of his two hits came a lead-sealing three-run home run in the seventh, putting the Vals up 7-3 and three outs away.
Anthony Iazzetti (Tuxedo, N.Y./Don Bosco Prep) went 2-for-2 at the plate with one RBI.
Billy Anema (Midland Park, N.J./Midland Park) earned the win on the pitch, going five innings with five strikeouts, no walks, and giving up one run.
Aidan Tumbleson (Manalapan, N.J./Manalapan) wrapped it up for the Valiants, finishing out two innings, giving up three hits and two earned runs.
THIRD INNING – CAIRN 1, MANAHATTANVILLE 0
The Highlanders scored first off a double from AJ Ramirez.
FIFTH INNING – MANAHATTANVILLE 1, CAIRN 1
Iazzetti sent Tashik home on an RBI single to tie up the score.
SIXTH INNING – MANHATTANVILLE 3, CAIRN 3

The Valiants scored two on wild pitches, White and
Travis Szober (Lake Ronkonkoma, N.Y./Sachem North).
BOTTOM 6 -
The Highlanders tied the game with an RBI single from Christian Spadea, followed by an RBI triple from Matthew Urena.
SEVENTH INNING – MANHATTANVILLE 7, CAIRN 3
A sacrifice fly out to left from Mezzaucella scored Goohs to put the Valiants up one.
White sealed the deal with a three-run shot, scoring
Anthony Peterson (Hasbrouck Heights, N.J./Hasbrouck Heights) and Moeller.
