PURCHASE, N.Y. – Manhattanville baseball opened the first homestand of the 2026 campaign with two victories over New Jersey City University. The Valiants improve to 6-2 while the Gothic Knights sit at 2-4-1.
GAME ONE – MANHATTANVILLE 13, NJCU 5
Anthony Mezzaucella (New Rochelle, N.Y./New Rochelle) and
Jack Moeller (Mahopac, N.Y./Mahopac) led the Valiants in the first game of the day. Mezzaucella went 3-for-3 with two RBIs, a walk, and four runs. Moeller went 4-for-4 with five RBIs, a walk, and three runs.
Ryan McCann (Medford, N.Y./Longwood) earned his third win on the bump for the Valiants, going 5.0 innings with six strikeouts and two earned runs.
FIRST INNING – MANHATTANVILLE 3, NJCU 0
After Mezzaucella drew a walk, Moeller came to the plate and sent the ball over the centerfield wall. With the bases loaded and two outs,
Anthony Peterson (Hasbrouck Heights, N.J./Hasbrouck Heights) was hit by a pitch, putting the Valiants up by three to start.
SECOND INNING – MANHATTANVILLE 7, NJCU 1
TOP -
The Gothic Knights scored with a sacrifice groundout.
BOTTOM –
Exarchakis led off the bottom of the second with a single to right center before getting sent home by a double from Mezzaucella. Moeller followed suit with a double to left to score Mezzaucella.
Moeller scored on a groundout, and the final run of the inning came off a single from
Chris Goohs (Nesconset, N.Y./Smithtown H.S. East), scoring
Marco Clara (Syosset, N.Y./Syosset).
THIRD INNING – MANHATTANVILLE 10, NJCU 2
TOP -
The second run for the Gothic Knights was scored off an RBI up the middle.
BOTTOM –
Moeller doubled to send Mezzaucella home. Moeller reached home to score the second run of the inning off a scramble at first, unearned. The final run of the inning, unearned, was off a single by
Logan Alberto (East Patchogue, N.Y./Bellport Senior) to send
Gregory Tashik (Midland Park, N.J./Midland Park Jr./Sr.) around third.
FOURTH INNING – MANHATTANVILLE 11, NJCU 2
Moeller singled through a hole in the left side to score Mezzaucella.
FIFTH INNING – MANHATTANVILLE 12, NJCU 3
TOP –
The run scored in the third inning was unearned, scoring on a fielding error by the shortstop.
BOTTOM –
Tashik hustled home on a failed pickoff attempt due to a throwing error by the pitcher.
SIXTH INNING – MANHATTANVILLE 13, NJCU 5
TOP –
NJCU scored on a sacrifice fly to centerfield as well as an RBI single before the inning ended on a throw to the plate from rightfield.
BOTTOM –
Manhattanville answered with Mezzaucella brining in a run off a sac fly to centerfield.
GAME TWO – MANHATTANVILLE 7, NJCU 6
Aidan Rosario (Greenwich, Conn./Greenwich) led the way in the second game of the day, going 2-for-3 with two runs, two RBIs, and a walk.
Gregory Tashik (Midland Park, N.J./Midland Park Jr./Sr.) and
Chris Goohs (Nesconset, N.Y./Smithtown H.S. East) both tallied one hit on the day with two RBIs.
Jack Lally (Ogdensburg, N.J./Wallkill Valley) entered the game in the third, ultimately picking up his first win of the season, going 5.0 on the mound with two hits, one unearned run, and three strikeouts.
FIRST INNING – MANHATTANVILLE 4, NJCU 0
Rosario walked up to the plate to battle through a seven-pitch at bat before taking his free base and pushing in the first run of the game. Tashik was to follow, wearing the ball on his back to push everyone up a base and to score the second.
Chris Goohs (Nesconset, N.Y./Smithtown H.S. East) sent a hard hit single to left center, sending Rosario and Moeller home.
SECOND INNING – MANHATTANVILLE 7, NJCU 5
Top –
The Gothic Knights' offense found its sweetspot in the bottom of the lineup, scoring on three RBI singles and taking home after a throwing error by the catcher to take their only lead of the day 5-4.
Bottom –
Rosario singled out ot right field to score Mezzaucella and tie the game at five.
Moeller took advantage of a fielding error by the first baseman to find his way home from third. Tashik sent Rosario home with a sacrifice pop-up to the second baseman. The Valiants answered the explosive top of the inning, regaining the lead.
FOURTH INNING – MANHATTANVILLE 7, NJCU 6
The final run of the day, unearned, was scored off an RBI groundout.
