Two Walk-off Victories Propel Baseball Over SEU

PURCHASE, N.Y. – Logan Alberto (East Patchogue, N.Y./Bellport Senior) and Marco Clara (Syosset, N.Y./Syosset) each sent the ball into left field to send home the winning run to walk off their respective games. Game one finished 2-1 in seven while game two went through nine to end 6-5.
The Valiants advance to 8-2 while The Eagles fall to 2-10. 8-2 is the best start to the season since going 8-2 to begin the 2011 campaign as members of the MAC Freedom conference.

GAME ONE – MANHATTANVILLE 2, SEU 1
Alberto walked off game one with a single to left field in his sole trip to the plate with one out and two on in the bottom of the seventh.
Gregory Tashik (Midland Park, N.J./Midland Park Jr./Sr.) put the Valiants on the board in the third, grounding into a fielder's choice to gain the RBI.
Ryan Costa (Bayport, N.Y./Bayport Blue-Point) went the distance on the mound by only giving up two hits and one unearned run crossing home plate. In 7.0 innings, the junior threw 95 pitches, only allowing two free bases and striking out five.

THIRD INNING – MANHATTANVILLE 1, SEU 0
Tashik scored Anthony Iazzetti (Tuxedo, N.Y./Don Bosco Prep) from third while sending the ball into a fielder's choice to put the Valiants ahead early on.

SEVENTH INNING – MANHATTANVILLE 2, SEU 1
TOP –
The second batter of the inning reached on a fielding error by the third baseman, stole second base, and scored on a single to center field to tie the game.
BOTTOM –
Izzetti got on base after a single to the third base side before moving to second on a single by Anthony Mezzaucella (New Rochelle, N.Y./New Rochelle). Alberto scored Izzetti from second to secure game one.


GAME TWO – MANHATTANVILLE 6, SEU 5
Clara entered the game as a pinch hitter in the bottom of the ninth with the bases loaded before sending the ball into left field for a walk-off single.
Griffin White (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Arlington) and Alberto both sent in two RBIs while taking a free base and going 1-for-4.
Aidan Tumbleson (Manalapan, N.J./Manalapan) entered the game with one out in the top of the fourth before finishing out 5.2 to earn his second win of the season. Tumbleson allowed five hits with two runs and one strikeout.

FIRST INNING – MANHATTANVILLE 1, SEU 1
TOP –
The Eagles got on the board with an RBI single to right.
BOTTOM –
The Valiants answered in the bottom of the first with Alex Exarchakis (Monroe, N.Y./Monroe Woodbury) scoring on a groundout by White.

SECOND INNING – SEU 2, MANHATTANVILLE 1
After a failed pickoff attempt, the runner on third scored due to the throwing error by the pitcher.

FOURTH INNING – SEU 3, MANHATTANVILLE 1
The Eagles added to its lead with a single up the middle.

FIFTH INNING – SEU 4, MANHATTANVILLE 2
TOP –
A throw to catch the runner stealing allowed the player on third to score.
BOTTOM –
Mezzaucella battled through a six-pitch at bat before he struck out swinging. He then reached first due to a throwing error on the catcher while Dylan Roberts (Warwick, R.I./Pilgrim) rounded third on the misplay.

SIXTH INNING – SEU 5, MANHATTANVILLE 3
TOP –
SEU singled to right field to extend the lead by three.
BOTTOM –
White started the inning with a single to second before advancing to second on a walk and third on a passed ball. Alberto grounded out to short, sending White home to score the unearned run.

SEVENTH INNING – MANHATTANVILLE 5, SEU 5
White and Alberto earned back-to-back four-pitch walks with the bases loaded to tie the game at five at the end of seven, heading into extras.

NINTH INNING – MANHATTANVILLE 6, SEU 5
Clara sent the ball to left field for an RBI single to score Jacob Oakley (Medford, N.Y./Patchogue-Medford) for the walk-off to secure the win.


Up Next – The Valiants return to their field on Saturday, Mar 21, facing John Jay with the doubleheader beginning at noon.
