Men’s Volleyball Sweeps Old Westbury

PURCHASE, N.Y. – Manhattanville men's volleyball returned to Kennedy Gymnasium to take the first game after spring break 3-0 over Old Westbury on Saturday afternoon. The Valiants (5-11) improve to 4-3 in Skyline play while Old Westbury drops to 5-7 (2-5 SKY).

The Valiants were led by Pedro Machado (Vitoria da Conquista, Brazil/Colegio Oficina) with 12 kills, followed by Joe Gandarillas (Farmingville, N.Y./Sachem HS East) with eight and Trevor Kolar (South Huntington, N.Y./Walt Whitman) with seven. Mason Moon (Rockport, Texas/Rockport-Fulton) found his squad on the court with 29 assists while sending down four aces.
Justin Lau (Queens, N.Y./Benjamin N. Cardozo) shut down the Panthers with three blocks, followed closely with two, and Moon with one.
SET ONE – MANHATTANVILLE 25, OLD WESTBURY 22
Manhattanville jumped out to an early 5-0 lead with two aces from Moon to start and three kills to follow. Old Westbury took advantage of errors to tie the game at ten. The home team pushed out the lead back by five, 19-14. Despite a slim comeback, the Vals held on to take set one 25-22.
SET TWO – MANHATTANVILLE 25, OLD WESTBURY 21
The Valiants went out in set two with the momentum still rolling, quickly getting in front 12-6. After grabbing a 20-13 lead, OW battled back to put the game within three, 23-20. Both teams sent two consecutive sets, with the Valiants taking set two 25-21.
SET THREE – MANHATTANVILLE 20, OLD WESTBURY 18
The home team entered the final set looking to secure its first home sweep since taking down Pratt back on Feb 5. Behind five kills from Kolar, the Valiants pushed out to a 16-10 lead. Benefitting from errors with a kill by Lau and Gandarillas, the team was within five, 20-12.
After a short rally put the Panthers at 18, the home team sealed the game with a Kolar kill.

Up Next – The Valiants head on the road for a midweek matchup at Sarah Lawrence on Mar 17 at 7 PM.
