PURCHASE, N.Y. – Manhattanville women's lacrosse secured its first home victory in the 2026 campaign, 9-5 over the University of Mount Saint Vincent on Saturday afternoon in the Morgan's Message dedication game.
The Valiants move to 3-4, nabbing a 1-0 start to conference play while the Dolphins fall to 0-4 (0-1 SKY)
Maura Spruck (Hawthorne, N.Y./Westlake High School) earned her first collegiate win in the net for the Valiants with three saves. Spruck was boosted on defense through Erin Flaherty (Rockland, Mass./Canterbury School), causing a turnover and earning four groundballs, while Molly Sances (Billerica, Mass./Billerica Memorial) caused a team-leading three turnovers.
Jocelyn Mazo (Mamaroneck, N.Y./Mamaroneck) posed a threat across the field with four draw controls, two caused turnovers, three shots on goal, and one finished.
Pietra Cabral (Mineola, N.Y./Mineola) led the offense for the Vals with three goals for her fourth game with three or more goals this campaign. The senior put six shots on goal while grabbing three groundballs and one draw control.
Kathleen O'Mara (Huntington, N.Y./Walt Whitman) continues to put pressure on defense with two goals, an assist, four shots on goal, three groundballs, and two caused turnovers. Kaci Pierce (Niantic, Conn./East Lyme) joined O'Mara's penetration through the eight-meter with two shots on goal, converting as well as fighting in the circle for three draw controls.
Ashley Glass (Mahopac, N.Y./Lakeland) extended her scoring streak to three games with a goal while fighting for two grounders.
Isabelle Gurley and Ella Meberg scored two goals for the Dolphins while Nevaeh Martin found herself with the final net. Gurley led her team with four draw controls as Laziza Azimove followed close behind with three. Makenna Reekie put pressure on the Valiants, causing three turnovers and grabbing six groundballs. In the goal, Makenna Reekie played all sixty minutes, recording eleven saves.
Cabral got the ball rolling less than a minute into the first quarter, executing from the free hash. Just over a minute later, O'Mara found herself in the same position, doubling the early lead.
The Dolphins grabbed its first of the game with just under six minutes remaining before the Valiants answered with another from the top of the eight-meter, this goal scored by Mazo.
The two teams went tit for tat to begin the second quarter, with the Dolphins striking fast and Ashley Glass (Mahopac, N.Y./Lakeland) scoring on a free position soon after. After a four-minute drought, UMSV grabbed two goals within two minutes to tie the score at four.
With 45-seconds left in the first half, Cabral put the Valiants up by one going into the break.
57 seconds into the third quarter, UMSV tied the game at five. Pierce found her way through the attack zone to regain the lead for her team. Cabral secured her fourth hatty of the season three minutes later.
Despite the man-down opportunity, Pierce fought her way through to push the lead out by three goals to wrap the third quarter.
The final 15 started off slow with O'Mara breaking the theme with her second of the day for the sole goal of the quarter, securing the home victory.
