WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – Nick Corace (Sayville, N.Y./Sayville) scored four times and netted the game-winner with 35 seconds remaining in regulation to complete a four-goal comeback on Saturday as the Manhattanville University men's lacrosse team defeated King's 10-9. The win snaps a four-game losing streak as the Valiants improve to 2-5 overall to conclude non-conference play.
The Valiants outscored the Monarchs 5-1 in the fourth quarter to complete the comeback in a game Manhattanville trailed since King's scored the opening goal 11 seconds into the contest. Manhattanville was behind by as many as four and entered the final quarter of play down by three.
Jack Roberts' (Middlefield, CT/Lyman Hall) first goal followed by back-to-back strikes from
Tyler Berch (Syosset, N.Y./Syosset) tied the game up at 8-8 with 5:10 left in regulation.
Brenden Lynch regained the lead for the home team before Berch completed his fourth-quarter hat trick to tie the game up again. That set the stage for Corace to play the role of hero, firing home a shot from
Frank Tallerico (Monroe Township, N.J./Monroe Township) for his fourth goal of the day and eighth of the season to cap off the come-from-behind win.
Corace matched his career-high with five total points in the win, adding an assist on
Jake Strobel's (White Plains, N.Y./White Plains) man-up goal in the third. Berch, Strobel, and
Dylan Foley (Northport, N.Y./Northport) joined Corace and Tallerico in the assist column.
Michael Karabinchak (Piscataway, N.J./Saint Joseph Metuchen) also scored for the Valiants as part of their three-goal third that kickstarted the second half comeback.
Joe Ulzheimer (Seaford, N.Y./Seaford) stood on his head with 20 saves in the Valiant net, the third-most stops the senior had made in a game in his career. It was Ulzheimer's most saves since 2024 when he made 22 on Marc. 30 against Marymount. The final line of the Valiant defense was especially up to task in the second half, making 11 saves while allowing just three goals.
The Monarchs scored all three goals of the first quarter and outscored the Valiants 3-2 in the second to take a four-goal lead into the half. ace started his big day with both of the team's goals in the second, his first assisted by Berch before scoring his second on a solo effort.
Corace began the third quarter scoring with his third of the game 2:19 out of the break before assisting Strobel's tally and Karabinchak getting on the board to overcome King's' two third quarter goals. Manhattanville withstood the Monarchs' 10-8 shot advantage in the fourth thanks to Ulzheimer's four saves over the final 15, allowing Berch to get things started with the Valiants' next three goals before Corace delivered the final blow.
To go along with his five points offensively, Corace collected three ground balls to match
Ryan Newman (Yonkers, N.Y./Archbishop Stepinac) for the team lead on the day.
Chris Gragnano (Lynbrook, N.Y./Lynbrook HS) and
Freddie Steenson (Huntington Station, N.Y./Walt Whitman) each finished with two grounders.
Steenson and Tallerico accounted for all four caused turnovers for the Manhattanville defense, logging two a piece. On the X,
Chris Guazzo (Rye, N.Y./Rye High School) went 9-for-22 in the faceoff battles.
