Baseball Splits Doubleheader with St. Joseph’s Long Island

PATCHOGUE, N.Y. – Manhattanville baseball split the day against Saint Joseph's Long Island, taking game one 7-4 for the first win against the Golden Eagles since 2007. Manhattanville dropped game two 21-4.
The Valiants (13-4, 3-1 SKY) handed the Golden Eagles (8-9, 5-1 SKY) its first conference loss of the year.

GAME ONE
Today's win in game one is the Valiants' first victory over the Golden Eagles since its 5-1 victory on March 24, 2007.
Manhattanville's win was secured with a bases-clearing double to left center by Dylan Roberts (Warwick, R.I./Pilgrim) in the top of the sixth inning. Roberts was the only member of his squad to hit extra bags in all seven innings.
Scott Ennist Jr. (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Franklin Delano Roosevelt) put the Vals ahead early with his sole hit of the day being a two RBI single. Anthony Peterson (Hasbrouck Heights, N.J./Hasbrouck Heights) raked his way through the seven innings, going 2-for-3 with one RBI, one stolen base, and two runs scored.
Ryan McCann (Medford, N.Y./Longwood) went the distance on the mound for the Valiants, earning his fifth win of the season. McCann recorded no walks, three strikeouts, allowed 11 hits, and four runs.

FIRST INNING – SJLI 1, MANHATTANVILLE 0
The home team struck first with a routine RBI single to right field for the early lead.

SECOND INNING – MANHATTANVILLE 2, SJLI 2
Manhattanville took its first lead of the game thanks to a two-RBI single up the right side by Ennist Jr, scoring two unearned runs.
The Golden Eagles tied the game with a single into right-center, scoring one.

FOURTH INNING – SJLI 3, MANHATTANVILLE 2
SJLI sent a home run over the left field wall to regain the lead.

SIXTH INNING – MANHATTANVILLE 7, SJLI 3
Griffin White (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Arlington) got the game knotted up at three with a sacrifice fly out to right field, sending Anthony Mezzaucella (New Rochelle, N.Y./New Rochelle) home and advancing Travis Szober (Lake Ronkonkoma, N.Y./Sachem North) to third. Peterson scored Szober with an infield single to grab a slim one-run lead.
Roberts approached the plate with bases loaded, sending the ball into left center to empty them, putting the Valiants up 7-3.

SEVENTH INNING – MANHATTANVILLE 7, SJLI 4
The Golden Eagles added one more to the board with an RBI single through the left side, ultimately falling short to the Valiants.


GAME TWO
The Golden Eagles dominated in game two, only allowing the Valiants three hits and four runs.
The first run for the Valiants came from a bases-loaded walk before Justin Encarnacion (Bronx, N.Y./Cardinal Hayes) had a three-RBI double into left field in the top of the sixth inning.  

FIRST INNING
The Golden Eagles grabbed four runs on two hits and forced the Valiants to make two errors.

SECOND INNING
The ball continued to fly for the home team, adding on four more runs on six hits in the bottom of the second.

THIRD INNING
Two more runs were added to the scoreboard for SJLI with two hits.

FIFTH INNING
With nine hits and one Valiant error, the Golden Eagles doubled its lead, adding ten runs to the board.

SIXTH INNING
Szober battled through a full count for the walk score Will Forgione (Wilton, Conn./Wilton) from third to avoid the shutout. The next batter was Encarnacion, who sent the ball to the left-center warning track, adding three more runs to the total with the bases clearing double.

The home team added one more run on two hits.




Up Next – The Valiants remain on the road, facing Farmingdale tomorrow with game one of the doubleheader starting at 3 PM.
