PURCHASE, N.Y. – Manhattanville men's lacrosse dominated in an 18-3 victory at Purchase College on Saturday afternoon. The Valiants (4-6, 2-1 Skyline) grab its second straight win while the Panthers (1-7, 0-3 Skyline) drop its fifth consecutive.
Elijah Bell (Baldwin, N.Y./Baldwin) made his second appearance of the year, his first start of the season in the goal for the Valiants. Bell played all 60 minutes, making a career-high 10 saves and earning his first collegiate victory. The Defense didn't allow a goal in the first quarter as only one reached the back of the net in the three to follow.
Drew Palladino (Wantagh, N.Y./Wantagh) led the team with six groundballs while sending out four assists and scoring one of his own. Jack Roberts (Middlefield, CT/Lyman Hall) followed closely with three assists.
Ryan Newman (Yonkers, N.Y./Archbishop Stepinac), Chris Gragnano (Lynbrook, N.Y./Lynbrook HS), and Bell all fought for four grounders. Chris Mercado (Aberdeen, Md./Aberdeen) grabbed three groundballs while taking away the win in 10 faceoffs.
The win was highlighted by five goals on six shots on goal from Frank Tallerico (Monroe Township, N.J./Monroe Township) on the scoring end. Anthony Cozza (West Harrison, N.Y./Byram Hills) was the second Valiant to record five points in the matchup with three goals and two assists.
Ian Denzer (Ossining, N.Y./Ossining) also found the back of the net three times, his first scoring opportunity of the season. Michael Karabinchak (Piscataway, N.J./Saint Joseph Metuchen) netted two for a career high in goals.
For the Panthers, Cameron Savoca was the standout leader with 10 groundballs and 11 faceoff wins. Zach Scott scored two goals while Kevon Joseph had the third.
Palladino got the ball rolling for the Valiants, followed a minute later by Michael Karabinchak (Piscataway, N.J./Saint Joseph Metuchen). Tallerico scored the following three goals in the span of three minutes for the Valiants. Tyler Berch (Syosset, N.Y./Syosset) forced Purchase to turnover the ball on a clear attempt before taking it to the goal to wrap the first 15.
The home team scored its first goal of the game at the 11:14 mark in the second quarter. Denzer, Dylan Foley (Northport, N.Y./Northport), Cozza, and Nick Corace (Sayville, N.Y./Sayville) continued to expand the lead over the following four minutes. Tallerico scored two goals to end the first half of play.
Cozza started the second half, executing off a successful full-field transition. Purchase scored its second goal of the game by forcing a Valiant turnover. Denzer struck twice, sending the game into the final quarter.
Karabinchak scored the first goal in the fourth quarter before the Panthers netted its final goal of the game less than a minute later. Leo Salkinder (Colts Neck, N.J./Colts Neck) scored the final goal of the game for the Valiants.
