PURCHASE, N.Y. – Returning home for the first time since Mar. 21, the Manhattanville University women's lacrosse team celebrated Senior Day on Saturday with a 22-2 victory over Purchase.
It was the Valiants' (6-6, 3-2 Skyline) highest goal total and largest margin of victory since 2023 when Manhattanville defeated Purchase 23-0.
Pregame, it was a celebration of Manhattanville's four seniors.
Pietra Cabral (Mineola, N.Y./Mineola),
Sydney Natale (Greenwich, Conn./Greenwich),
Kaci Pierce (Niantic, Conn./East Lyme) and
Ava Wade (Eastchester, N.Y./Eastchester) were all recognized for their dedication and contributions to Valiant women's lacrosse for the past four years, helping Manhattanville rack up 28 wins in that span.
All four seniors found the back of the net as part of the offensive barrage, combining for 16 of the Valiants' 22 goals. Pierce and Cabral finished with eight points each, with Pierce scoring a career-high eight goals to bring her to 95 for her career, while Cabral's eight points (five goals, three assists) marked a new season best. Wade scored the first two goals of her career on a pair of free position shots, while Natale capped off the day with the Valiants' final score of the day, her first goal of the year.
While the seniors balled out, the underclassmen put up impressive numbers in their own rights.
Jocelyn Mazo (Mamaroneck, N.Y./Mamaroneck) finished with four points on two goals and a pair of assists while matching Cabral for the team lead on the day with six draw controls.
Lauren Mumaw (Kingsville, Md./Mercy High School) and
Ashley Glass (Mahopac, N.Y./Lakeland) scored twice each, while
Bethany Rudolph (Beacon, N.Y./Beacon High School) and
Kathleen O'Mara (Huntington, N.Y./Walt Whitman) combined to provide five assists.
Cabral also paced the Vals with seven ground balls to push past 100 for her career. Natale, Pierce and Wade combined for 10 more grounders for the Valiants defensively. Natale's four caused turnovers led the way, with Pierce and Mumaw also forcing three Panther turnovers each.
Manhattanville took a 9-0 lead at the end of the first quarter, with Pierce scoring four times in the opening period. Manhattanville's scoring run carried into the second when Wade scored her first collegiate goal to put the Valiants up by 10 with 10:51 left in the half.
Jill Creegan put Purchase on the board two minutes later, but the Valiants ended the half with three consecutive goals by way of Wade, Pierce and Cabral. Mazo opened the second half scoring ahead of Maggie Obman responding for the Panthers, but it was all Vals the rest of the way home, ending the contest with eight unanswered tallies.
All three Valiant goaltenders saw action in the win, with
Megan McDonald (Pearl River, N.Y./Pearl River) playing the first half, making one save and allowing one goal to improve to 1-1 on the year.
Mary Kopf (Congers, N.Y./Clarkstown High School North) took over in the third with a save and one goal allowed before
Maura Spruck (Hawthorne, N.Y./Westlake High School) closed out the day in the fourth, not facing a shot.
