Baseball Wraps Non Conference Play with Dominant 15-6 Victory

PURCHASE, N.Y. – Manhattanville University baseball concluded its non-conference matchups with a confident 15-6 win over Western Connecticut State on their Morgan's Message dedication gameday. The Valiants improve to 19-9 while the Wolves drop to 8-19.

Griffin White (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Arlington) had a season-high five RBIs, going 3-for-3 with two singles and a double, and scoring once. Alex Exarchakis (Monroe, N.Y./Monroe Woodbury) and Marco Clara (Syosset, N.Y./Syosset) sent their first longballs of the year. Clara sent a solo shot over the left field ball in the second inning while Exarchakis rocketed the ball over right-center, scoring Dylan Roberts (Warwick, R.I./Pilgrim) with him, in the fourth.

Jacob Oakley (Medford, N.Y./Patchogue-Medford) and Chris Goohs (Nesconset, N.Y./Smithtown H.S. East) both sent home two runs, going 1-for-1 and 2-for-4 sequentially. Jack Moeller (Mahopac, N.Y./Mahopac), Dylan Roberts (Warwick, R.I./Pilgrim), and Travis Szober (Lake Ronkonkoma, N.Y./Sachem North) each recorded one RBI.

Aidan Tumbleson (Manalapan, N.J./Manalapan) recorded his first start of the year while earning his fourth victory on the bump.

FIRST INNING – MANHATTANVILLE 3, WESTCONN 0

Moeller got things started for the Valiants, sending a single into right field to score Mike Scozzafava (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y./Walter Panas). After Mezzaucella reached on a fielder's choice, Roberts found his way to first base after a bobbled ball by the second baseman.

White shot the ball into left center for a two-run double to wrap the first inning.

SECOND INNING – MANHATTANVILLE 4, WESTCONN 0

On the first pitch of the bottom half of the second, Clara sent the ball over the left field wall.

THIRD INNING – MANHATTANVILLE 5, WESTCONN 1

After doubling and advancing on a wild pitch, WestConn scored on a sac fly to right field.

FOURTH INNING – MANHATTANVILLE 8, WESTCONN 1

Roberts laid down a by-the-book bunt down the first base side for a single before the pitcher threw the ball away, advancing Roberts to second and Mezzaucella to third.

White sent a SAC fly to center to score Mezzaucella.

Exarchakis homered in the following at-bat for a two-run shot over right center.

FIFTH INNING – MANHATTANVILLE 11, WESTCONN 1

With two on, Roberts doubled into left center to score Finn Harney (Millerton, N.Y./Salisbury School) from second. White sent the ball up the middle to clear the bases three pitches later.

SIXTH INNING – MANHATTANVILLE 11, WESTCONN 2

WestConn added on a run with a SAC fly to right.

SEVENTH INNING – MANHATTANVILLE 11, WESTCONN 6

The Wolves added on four runs on six hits with two left on and all runs earned.

EIHGTH INNING – MANHATTANVILLE 15, WESTCONN 6

Peterson led off the inning with a single to shallow left field, advancing to second on a throwing error by the shortstop. Goohs sent him home on a double into left.

Szober singled into left field, scoring Goohs and advancing Lance Alswanger-Busch (Stamford, Conn./West Hill) to third before advancing himself to second due to a fielding error by the left fielder.

Oakley sent a single right back to the left side of the outfield in his sole at-bat of the game, scoring Szober and Alswanger-Bush.

Up Next – Baseball heads into another game-packed weekend, facing St. Joseph's Brooklyn Saturday and Mount Saint Vincent Sunday.
