SPARKILL, N.Y. –The Manhattanville University men's tennis team squared off against Division II Saint Thomas Aquinas on Tuesday as the Valiants' three-match winning streak came to a close with a 7-0 loss to the Spartans. The Valiants fall to 4-6 with the loss.
Kazuma Kato (Nerima, Tokyo, Japan/Aioi Gakuin) and
Elouan Charretteur (Fontainebleau, France/Lycée International Francois Premier 1er) fell to Don Vinz Lominoque and Nagamitsu Kuroda 6-1 in No. 1 Doubles action. Manhattanville's No. 2 pairing of
Thomas Jouanneau (Luneville, France/Lycee Arago) and
Derwin Guzman (Bronx, N.Y./Frederick Douglass Academy) suffered an identical fate against Ondrej Sramek and Erik Victor Tauson, while
Sami Badre-Hume (Brooklyn, N.Y./Bay Ridge Prep) and
Nicholas Gervasi (Melbourne, Victoria, Australia/Epsom College) were blanked 6-0 by Henry Ronnberg and Alberto Espinosa Navarro in No. 3s.
Kato had the best showing for the Valiants in singles, taking on Lorenzo Meschini in the No. 1 flight. Kato won the opening set 6-2, but would fall in the next two by scored of 3-6 and 0-6. Jouanneau took on Theo Renoux in the No. 2 flight, falling in a 6-2, 7-6 (7-3) battle.
Charretteur fell 6-2, 6-2 to Lominoque in No. 3s, while Guzman dropped a 6-2, 6-0 decision to Kuroda in the No. 4 showing. Gervasi lost to Nathan Yacar 6-0, 6-1 on the No. 5 court, with Badre-Hume wrapping up play with a 6-1, 6-1 loss to Espinosa Navarro in No. 6s.
